The VIN he lists: JH4DC23181S001054 (The badge number is 01-0405, Doespike)

Is actually this car in North Carolina, here is a link to the AutoTrader listing.

Something sketchy is going on here.

Something isn't right, the "92-01" raises my eyebrow. However, maybe its a typo. Maybe the VIN is a typo.... Like I said, something isn't right. I don't trust anyone these days either.

Craiglist dude's VIN is missing on engine/trans. That says stolen to me. No other reason to tear off VIN. Pro'lly pulled number arf Autotrader listing.

Not to mention the VIN cut off, leaving portions still attached to the rivets... Why would he remove the VIN from his own car's engine? No pictures of the "Wrecked" caR to validate his story? $3,000 for an '01 Type-R powertrain and seats?

I was just thinking that. Someone should copy the thread and call the cops (the ripped off vin should be enough of a reason to investigate) or get a bunch of buddies and meet up with the guy

I think this is fishy too,

However ....

In terms of the tranny VIN tag being missing, or broken off .... that says nothing. My car doesn't have a tranny VIN on it either. I removed it, including the rivets when my tranny case was hot-tanked when I rebuilt it. Never put it back on. Don't see a reason to. Mind you, leaving the rivets there is sort of suspicious, but than again, that vin tag comes off easy. If the VIN on the block stamp was shaved, than for sure it's hot.

NOTE TO ALL: record your eng./trans s/n's and VIN and keep in a safe place.
If I found my motor in someones car I'd take a baseball bat & beat car to a pulp or if the owner was a handsome young man, I'd send him to a Federal "pound him in the ***" Prision where I'm sure he'd be very popular. I'm very much in favor of crushing cars that cops find with stolen parts. This is a law in some states.

^ Ahead of you. Records of my engine stamping, and other distinctive markings that I've made in various spots on/in the engine, are in an envelope, sitting in my original armrest, that's sitting in a safe place.

So in short, if my engine gets stolen, and it's recovered without VINs or the engine stamping, I can give the police the records of the specific distinctive markings I've made. They'd find them, and that would be that.

Put your VIN tag back on.
And you might consider marking your block in a discrete place with D.L. number or some other form of I.D.

I've gotten sick up and fed of all this ITR theivery.

I'd bet my paycheck it's stolen. The block serial number is from a 2000 ITR (730..), unlike the 2001 VIN he listed. Plus the Tranny VIN plate ripped off, etc.

Can someone inside Honda run the serial # of the block and find out the true VIN of the ITR?

ALSO , BETWEEN craighs list and autotrader , may not be the same motor , the oil cap is different , and the wires , it autotrader it has what loks to be a spoon , then he had stock on craigslist , and the sparkplug wires were stock on AT, and the wires are red on C L. shady like oakleys

ok so i called the place COSMO motors , they still have the car , so it diddnt get rear ended , wich also would make that a HUGE typo when he typed the vin , or IT IS IN FACT STOLEN , ONE OR THE OTHER , BUT THEY STILL HAVE THE CAR IN 1 PIECE SO........(PULLS SUNGLASSES DOWN , I NEED SOME SHADE) OUCH .
