Default Ok car starts now but maybe you ITR guys might now why temp gauge isn't working

I figured out why my tach doesn't work already fixed the check engine lights but temp gauge just shoots up to H. NO it is not the cluster save yourself the post I've used 4 different ones and it doesnt matter anyway.

Hes the deal 2001 itr using obd1 engine harness, p28 obd1 ecu neptuned, obd2b chassis harness and dash harness.

The wire to the cluster is getting a power signal ground tests to be good any ideas?

Possible faulty thermostat?
OEM or aftermarket?
Any leaks in the radiator or hoses?
The over flow bottle, if you fill it to the required mark, does it get sucked dry?
Thermostat ground not properly grounded?
Can you hear/see the radiator fan turn on/off?
Did you purge the cooling system of all trapped air?

Pretty sure his car isn't actually overheating, something with the (not the temp gauge) but the wiring for it, right?

Reading comprehension... It sure is a killer some times.

Hmmmm. Gauge isn't working. I'm going to asume that you have a HELMS.

Reference the electrical system and follow the diagram of the gauges and see if there is any specific resistor(s)/sensor(s) between the thermostat and the actual gauge. From what I understand, most of the systems in these cars are stepped down from 12V to something smaller.

Unfortunately, I don't have the HELMS in front of me to go through it with you.

never mix and match. just modify what you got. jeebles.

He has an ECU that doesnt accomodate for the extra sensors.

Chase, when I started up my car after the rebuild, fuel and water temperature shot all the way up. It was the cluster. I dont know what to tell you.

ECU doesn't matter on the temp gauge. Have you tried replacing the sensor in the head? I was fighting this same problem and decided to just run an autometer gauge and save the headache.

You can not modify what you had If you never had anything to start with, think about it.

No the car is not overheating when power is applied to the cluster it just shoots up so there is what im thinking a bad ground. Ive unplugged the sensor to eliminate that but also when I use the hazards the temp needle just up and back down didnt know if any of you have had this problem

What dash harness are you using? What cluster?

What about your engine harness? IS there anyway possible that the temp senor wire could be pinned in the wrong location where it meets up with the main (interior) harness?

It should be a yellow wire with a single green stripe IIRC. You can run a manual wire from the sensor to your gauge cluster. Find that wire on the back of your harness and re-pin it to your temporary wire.
