Default King Motorsports - one-time-only run of 16 inch Mugen MF-10s

Just a heads-up for everyone... per King's website...
http://www.kingmotorsports.com...t_925

Mugen MF-10: Bronze, 16", +43mm, 5x114.3

You’ve heard the buzz – and it’s true! A one-time-only run of 16 inch Mugen MF-10s made from the original molds and material specs will be available mid to late January, 2009. We will be receiving 50 sets of Bronze MF-10s in the popular 16x7, +43mm offset, in the 5 x 114.3 lug pattern. When these are gone, they are gone… we will not be making another production run.

Fitment is for 97-01 Acura Integra Type R. These will also fit 90-01 Acura Integra and 88-00 Honda Civic/CRX, but these applications will require the 5-lug conversion. Although these wheels will fit any Honda or Acura with 5x114.3mm lug pattern, they’re only available in the +43mm offset – so check before ordering as their will be NO RETURNS.

This limited production run of the coveted Mugen MF-10 is ONLY available through King Motorsports. They are not available through, Mugen of Japan, other retailers or anywhere in Europe. We have reserved these wheels for our customers only. In order to offer this sought-after wheel while still maintaining exclusivity for those making this investment, Mugen and King Motorsports have agreed to a SINGLE RUN of 50 sets.

For those of you looking for 17 inch MF-10s, King Motorsports is in the beginning stages of negotiating a similar run of 17x8, +45mm offset, also using the 5 x 114.3 lug pattern. Please check our website for updates on these wheels.

Wheels will be sold in sets of 4 only and include valve stems and black center caps. Wheels require Mugen lug nuts with straight taper seats.

We are taking pre-orders now and wheels will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Orders for MF-10s must be placed via phone only with valid credit card – no internet orders. Reserving a set of MF-10s requires a $1,500 down payment at time of order. Delivery to our facility is scheduled for late January 2009. Local pickup is available, shipping is additional.

The majority of us are already aware of this. I don't think this warrants an individual post. Thanks for the reminder though.

I personally feel those prices are stupid high, close to 40% higher than a new set of volks. I'm sure there are some market controls in there, but this just seems ridiculous to me. I was expecting $2500 max. I feel like King is taking advantage of people here.

Whats an extra $400? Mugen > Volk.

I really doubt the pricing was set by King.

I wonder if King's continued support of the ITR Expo this year might of had an influence in this decision in size and reproduction. I'm sure they saw and are very aware of the longevity of the ITR and the need's and want's that all the newer owner's have. It would be interesting to learn the inside story on this reproduction and how it came to be.

I can be a Mugen fanboi too, but 3k for wheels? I'm in the wrong business. Seems lucrative to me.

That being said, I have bought many parts from King in the past and still plan to buy an intake when the time is right. I will always support the sponsors of Expo as long as they do good business and continue to support ouR community.

I understand the economics of what it takes to make a limited production wheel, hence the Volk reference. Mackin controls the supply and often only produces 10 sets of a given wheel, size, offset, lug pattern.

In this case, there are 50 sets being made. In comparison to only producing 10 sets (Mackin/Volk), the costs would be reduced since you have a higher quantity to spread out your production costs. I'l point out that I am assuming the production costs between Mackin and Mugen are generally the same. Both are top shelf wheels, so I think this is a fair assumption.

With all of this in context, 3k in wheels does seem high for me. R and D Motorsports sells 16'' Volks for $2250 out the door. Those wheels have to go through the same shipping, customs, and inspection process as these wheels from King. So, why is the price 40% higher? That is my point.

For the record, I'm off my soap box and I would still love to own a set of MF10s.

Gotta pay to play.

And I also agree with Ryan I was just about to comment on Supply & Demand. That is no doubt a direct reason of the price increase not too mention the increase in the price of materials and transportation/shipping.

Its not. Original MFs in this size where $2200 or $550 a piece.

I'v heard some shady things about Walker. I mean, he's on his second R. Apparenly he drove his first one into the ground or something.
