Default Cool R story

I have been a member of this site since I was 16 back in 2002, I have always loved the ITR and will own one someday I just got my S2000 first! Well on to the story. I know a local guy that runs his own Honda shop. I was getting a weird noise in the rear of my S and could not figure it out so I ran by his shop. I was talking to him for awhile as I had not seen him in about a year and asked if he has ever had to work on a NSX at his shop. He told me that not yet but he had his first type r out back. I went with him to take a look it was a 1997 type r (I think it was #514). The car had a cool story, the paint was beat up and faded and the car only had 62k miles on it, but the cool thing is it was 100% stock down to the exhaust and intake. A doctor bought it new while he was in grad school for whipping in and out of traffic. He originally wanted a GSR because a friend of his had one but the dealer did not have a GSR instock. They happened to have a R though and they installed air for him in. After he got out of school he probably bought a nicer car so he just parked the R using it and used it to haul his golf clubs now and again. The car had not run in over 3 years so the gas tank and many other things had just been replaced by my buddy. I asked him if the guy realized what he had and he did not but he also had no interest in selling it since it was his college car and has many memories with it. When the car was dropped off at the shop it was green (covered in gunk)! I told him to give the owner my number and if he ever wants to sell it call me first!

Interesting story about a 97, but what does this mean:

The car had been repainted green? . . . was some how filthy enough to look greenish after sitting forever? . . . or what?

Okay. Now I understand. Interesting to see a one owner '97 with lower mileage like that. It's kinda funny/disturbing that the only reason he's keeping the car is his own personal nostalgia, not the fact that it is actually a special and rare vehicle (which unfortunately is in much worse shape than it should be for that low of mileage). It always makes you wonder who originally buys some of these limited vehicles. Sad part is that most of them are originally bought by someone with plenty of coin who just treat it like any other car. Unfortunately a lot of people just see vehicles, no matter what they are, as some disposable means of transportation. Hell, most of society views pretty much anything today as disposable.

How can you possibly instantiate that as someone else's reason? That's why you have your car.

This story is more not-cool than cool; but still cool.

All I'm saying (and what I should have initially said) is that it sucks that he doesn't care that the car is rare car. It just surprises me that someone would own a '97 ITR and not know what they had. I just wish he cared enough about it to not leave it in a beaten up swamp thing-esque shape after only 62k miles. Damn near everyone loves their current/car they've had before due to old memories and nostalgia. I'm just saying if he gave two ***** about to begin with, he might have kept it in better shape in the first place. I guess my thought was the nostalgia was all it was worth at that point if he just let it sit there and turn green. I've seen a ton of people that just can't let that "shell in the yard" go. They never really have any plans for it. They just love the memories it holds. That is my 2 cents.

The 1997 badges range from 00001 through 00514. That means if he has 514, then it is the highest badge of any North American 97' made. Cool stuff.

That is a way cooler story as those cars are far more rare than a Type R. IIRC almost every Zanardi NSX has been accounted for on the internet and you can trace them back quite well. Not so much with the ITR.

The local Acura dealer had a Zanardi NSX a few years back. I googled the badge number and found out it had a somewhat checkered past, even though the dealer put a lot of the stock parts back on it.

Wow I am going to call him tomorrow and find out the number. I am pretty sure it was #514. He mentioned the doc wished it had cruise control!

I would not recommend sharing this story at a party if you plan on having a "cool" status. Just my two cents.

Maybe if you included Jesus riding a velociraptor while doing blow off the crack of a dead hooker's ***, it would be pretty cool. Other than that, it's sub par. Borderline, but I couldn't say it was cool.
