there is no drain plug for the PS, just take out one of the hose and start the car and the fluid will shoot out, just take it easy cause it will be a mess.

If you really don't care about PS then just yank it all out and replace the rack. 94-01 Integra's can use 92-95 Civic manual racks and 96-00 civics must use 96-00 manual racks. Did this to my Si. Used a 97 dx manual rack. Yes I lost some turn in rate because of the higher steering ratio, but the feel is amazing over power assisted and it's easier to turn. I believe Mike K did this as well on his ITR. If anyone is really interesetd in doing this, talk to myself or Mike K first to find out what extra parts you will need so you don't do what I did and spent three days on this conversion overnighting parts not once, but twice .
Later.

When I first install my breather I had the front wheels off of the ground and turned the steering wheel back and forth. P/S fluid shot about 3 feet in the air through the breather hole on the cap because of all the pressure. I then took the line from the bottom of my Tilton Breather and ran it into a drain pan and turned the wheel back and forth until it stopped blowing fluid out.
I was reading this for the second time. I think in fact you drained about 90% of the fluid out by doing this!!! Is there enough in the rack to lubricate it?

Could I get away with just doing the following and get the same results? -> Looping the hoses from the PS pump assembly and draining 50-75% of the PS fluid? Less fluid=less resistance.
I think he drained more than 75% of the fluid. So, the only thing that breather does is releasing the air pressure caused by the steering. Maybe you're right about the rack and pinion not being lubricated by the fluid.

anyone wanna do this mod for me? (or any shops)
i prefer the realtime ITR method.
i would be willing to "properly compensate"
$$$ LOL i'm serious though.
the only thing i've ever done was install my icebox and change my oil.
i'd rather have someone who knows what they're doing or who has
done it before do it. it doesn't look super hard..but still..
i have a 2000 gsr 2door.

i'm located in so cali.

Yes the breather is only in place to release the air pressure.

As far as keeping the rack lubed. I don't know for sure the proper amount of fluid to keep it lubed.

RTR has been doing this this way for 5 years without any problems.

The manual rack install is the "proper way" to go but the ratio is different.

I consider my whole car a wearable item, so if longevaty is a concern leave the system stock.

How would I do this on a 2nd gen integra. I have the sterring rack out of the car right now. It has 4 lines coming off the valve body (the car has variable assist).

Why the pulley.? I think you missed the point. Go back to the top and start over.

Sorry to bring this back up. Just to confirm my understanding

There are two things to do:
1. Loop the two holes in (15)
2. "T" into either (19) or (20) and connect to breather

Please correct me if I'm wrong

you owe me big time dropspeed!
Here I took a picture of a friend's car which shows what dropspeed is trying explain. My friend who did this told me it work's great on his integra.
My friend however just T'd off the hose loop, rather then cutting the metal line. Same thing, its just a matter of preference I guess.

What kind of breather is that? Looks like my kid's Sunny D bottle.

that breather, etc... was from the place where dropspeed got his I guess. My friend just told me that he followed what dropspeed did and bought it all from the same place that he listed on this thread. Now that I think of it, the breather is a tilton unit. My friend said he paid like $20 for the whole thing.

Dropspeed,Rboosted717

how is this mod compared to a manuel rack... low speed that is, granted, I'm a big boy, but the 5'7" 120lb wife has to drive the car on occasion also...

this mod is said to make the steering feel like it has power streering again.
When you just unhook the belt, its hard to turn since your pushing the fluid yourself instead of the pump.
When you just loose the whole power steering unit and loop the two holes with half the fluid in the rack its still hard to turn but not that bad.
When you loop the two holes and T into the loop and hook up a breather for some of the air and fluid to go into, it allows the rack to move a lot easier. Also like power steering. My friend says he loves it, however I have yet to try it out.

Can somebody tell me the dimension of that "T" connector? I think it's missing in the dropspeed description.

You don't have to T into 19 and 20. You can also disconnect them and loop them = connect 19 and 20 with a hose. Same effect and you don't need a breather.

Then my question is what do you do with 15? I thought the whole idea here was the dump the PS and the PS hardware. You have to remove all the lines in effect do you not (not referring to 19/20)?

I'm not understanding why you wouldn't need or want a breather if you connected 19/20 together since the fluid would still pass through the same way and create pressure. Or is it because you left 15 connected and the stock PS bottle now becomes the breather?

Great posts and creative methods guys!
