How long should my DENSO IRIDIUM plugs last ???

I've heard they don't last very long. Right now, the R feels fine, but I wonder if I went ahead and switched back to the STOCK plugs if I would feel any difference.

btw, I've had them in for about 20,000 miles, driven hard.

TIA!!

I've been running NGK iridium temp 7's in my R for about 7k miles now. Checked them the other day they're still looking good if that helped you out in your descision.

I've had mine in for about 20K, and they still look good. They are checked regularly

I just put the same plugs in my b16b. There are many signs to a bad spark plug. Just make sure the plug gap isnt bridged, oil fouled or carbon fouled. Also check for fused posts, caused from sudden acceleration. Fuse spots can be cleaned if not excessive, otherwise replace plug.

Or do you mean detonation?

Sorry I ment fused spots caused from sudden acceleration.

Im sure Echos's arent as hard on plugs as ITR's https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif Just inspect them at every other oil change. That way you can replace them when there is a problem, rather then waiting a year.

I had a set in my last teg, at 20k i put in a set OE ngk's 'just to see' and found a huge difference, the engine was so more responsive and smoother at lower rpms, i then put the denso's back in to be sure it wasnt my imagination and it wasnt, throttle reposnse was more nothchy and power delivery wasnt as smooth. The denso's looked fine but had obviously gone past their life so they were binned. I have HKS iridiums in my ITR at the moment but i will need to get a set of OE NGKs to compare before/after in order to see if the HKS ones are still good.

"How Long Should My DENSO IRIDIUM Last?" Well I sure as hell hope your's don't do what mine did (I'm not alone on this).

Clint Eastwood best answered your question as he held a loaded .44 Magnum at some punk he was about to blow away...("Do you feel lucky...?) These things fail. imho, they are the loaded .44 Magnum pointed directly at the top of your pistons and the potential shrapnel is the death of your motor.

I will never use Denso Iridium again. Mine failed (badly) on the second weekend of use in my 1999 Civic B16a race motor. Two out of four ceramic insulators rotate within the metal body, loss of pressure and misfire are immediate result. I am friggin lucky that none of this shit fell into my motor and ended everything.

Clearly the risk of having pieces of CERAMIC INSULATOR DROP INTO YOUR F@#kING CYLINDER is quite real and should be enough to get these things the hell out of your engine yesterday.

My situation is far from unique. Google the term "Denso Iridium Failure" and you more of the same thing, several ending very badly.

My B16A is naturally aspirated, Supertech valvetrain, 9350rpm redline, 11.9 compression running 91 octane full, Hondata s300 and Honda Coil Pack Retrofit. The car is professionally tuned and serviced by Blacktrax Performance, a highly reputable Northern California Tuning shop with extensive Honda experience building race motors. They had never seen this failure either.

But here is another situation exactly like mine: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/3263...m-spark-plugs/

Here is the video I made of my #2 spark plug just for you guys:

Are you using NGK's Iridium IX or Laser Iridium?

I can't find the Laser Iridium in 7's (only 6's).

If these plugs aren't really recommended, what are some others that you would pick?

I plan to run TDK equivalents and see how they hold up. Denso's are clearly not up to the task, too fragile and apparently have had this issue for a very long time.
