Default How can tell what year a JDM B18C block is?

I'm planning on purchasing a JDM B18C block and I want to know what I should look for to distinguish what year is the block. Can somebody please post pictures. I was told it was a 98 Spec R. But any help and info would do. Thanks.

get the number of the block (under the b18c stamp) and see if ben (AJ PWR on this board) can help you.

but if its just the block, theres not much difference between the 95.5-97 and 98-01 is there? i thought the only differences were found in the tranny, cams, header, and other little stuff.

There are four round stamps on my JDM B18C (1994) they look like dials/buttons with numbers stamped in them, the first one has 94 stamped in it, the second has 10 and the other two have 4 and 8 stamped on them (not exactly sure what the 4 and 8 are) but i would imagine the other two are for the date the engine was cast/made, ie October 1994

are you sure you're not talking about the stamps on the HEAD?

itr head, im, etc...

Also, the stamps on the head... one of them (the first one I think) right above the exhaust manifold, it should have a 98+... that's if it's a 98, then it should be in that first circle. Pretty easy to tell. Although, I've seen motors from japan with aftermarket cams or clutch and flywheel, etc...

since your gettin a jdm block make sure you distinguish it from a sir-g to a type r block. by looking at the pistons, make sure it says p73-a00 and not p72-a00.

.....yeah, but the jdm bottom end for a b18c shouldn't matter too much to you.

I mean, if it's got the itr head, etc... unless you're getting JUST the bottom end.

But those are the EASY ways to tell on the head - and you can see if it's been removed previously. Too much trouble for them to swap a head only to give you a slightly lower c/r...

I'm just buying a short block not a long block. No Head included .
Yes, it matters cause I would like to know and I prefer to buy a 98 Spec R instead of a 97 Spec. Also, I'd prefer a newer block assuming there would be lower mileage. It has something to do with the serial numbers. Any pictures would help.

Not exactly sure on the year, but i believe the 98+ blocks have the crank trigger on the block instead of in the distributor. I know for a fact that up to 97, the sensor is in the distributor. Just check by the crank and look for the sensor. If its there, its 98+

They will also have a different timing cover vs the 96-97 JDM ITR.

If possible i also would like to see if my block is a jdm 98+spec.
I bought this 98 spec jdm b18c from hmo, and everything seems right.
pr3 stamped on head
A little green paint left by the dizzy ( I mean barley see) does it seem funny for a 37,000 mile engine to barley have any paint left?
P73 hf-1 on intake manifold
b18c stamp w (hmo) next to it
Heres my reason for asking, on the timing valve cover it says p72, when it, as far as i know should say p73..... Im puzzled??? this better be a 98 itr and not a 98 gsr considering jdm stamp both b18c on itr and gsr.
Im hopeing Ben (AJ PWR) or MIGS would help me? plez and thank you!

HMO is a importer, those imported stuff are used. so the owner before couldve replaced it.

btw the stamping on a type r (numerical) will differ amongst the year and type, SIR vs Type R. a 97R is like 19xxxxx and 98R+ is like 20xxxxx-21xxxxx or some **** like that, i remember reading a post in this section about it. It was direct from a Primo Honda CD ROM.

I haven't checked any JDM ITR blocks but I do klnow that the CTR block has a P73 stamped on the backside of the engine near the rear mount area.
