Default HELP: Can't identify exhaust

I just got my type R, and I am pretty sure the exhaust or the muffler are aftermarket. I'll post some pics and hopefully you can tell me what it has, the dealer didn't tell me anything.

What's this?

If anyone can help, thank you.

Holy ****!

I cant believe someone ruined the o.e.header when making that exhaust....

You realize that if you want to go back to stock that you will need a new o.e. header, or re-modify that one....

The exhaust looks like a cheap meineke hack job....

Good Luck

So the thing up front is a new header? And the exhaust you say is cheap...well ****. I'm going to go go to an Acura dealer soon and see what they can tell me about it, cause it rumbles at times.

Welded one piece header and cat FTL. I can't tell. Looks like random mixed part.

The header is the part that comes off of the front of the head on the engine....

The bright silver in the pic is where someone hacked off the header flange and welded in a flex pipe in place of the catalytic converter...

Also, do you have a cel on?

I don't think there is a cat welded in, I think that is a resonator behind the flex pipe.....

my guess is that there is a cel for not having a cat....

cel= check engine light

Does the engine light come on when you start the car and go off, or does it come on and stay on?

Also, where do you live?

If you do not have a catalytic converter on the car, most cities that will not pass inspection....

It has passed emissions, there is no check engine light. Everything is fine.

As long as it has passed emissions and there is not a cel on, I'm happy. And it doesn't sound ricer either.

Did you have to take the car somewhere to get it inspected?

Or, is this the inspection from the previous owner?

Is that a cat or a resonator? And isn't it illegal for a dealership to sell a car without a cat? And was the "emissions" check just an OBD-2 check? if so, that just means the previous owner is running an O2 fooler.

Regradless, that R has been through some salt and you indeed got a hacked up exhaust system.

I'd go back to the dealer and b!tch up a storm...then again I would have caught that before I bought it. But, I'd still bring it to their attention.

And FWIW, those hangars look like they are about to rust off, so you'll be replacing the exhaust before you know it. There is probably a reason why you got a good deal on it.

Quite honestly, I'd look for a nice used OEM ITR exhaust manifold, cat, B-pipe and muffler and put the car back to stock. But if you're content with a hack job and a crappy aftermarket muffler, then keep what you have.

Todd

looks to me like a hi-flow cat.. if he didnt have a cat, he wouldnt pass emmisions. you guys with emission testing know it has to be close to get past the sniffer

That does not look like a high flow cat. I have one on my ITR and it looks nothing like that nor have I ever seen a high flow cat that looks like that.

The exhaust setup on that car looks horrible.

Looks like Header-->Some sort of tube with a O2 bung-->1/2 size Flex tube-->Resonator

You can pass emmisions in certain states without a cat. I live in Texas and have a test pipe on the ITR. Pass emissions with flying colors. Different states have more strict testing. Here in Texas, all they do is hook the car up to the computer and thats it.

You can run a test pipe with a CEL delete and not have a check engine light come on.

Car was emission tested in mass all it's life. When getting registered, was done again in conn. Strict emission tests so it's definitely not a half *** job. And Todd, no offense to you sir, but every time I post anything on this forum you always have to be a negative nancy, and really discourage me from posting on this forum.

That's because every thing you post is completely wrong. You won't listen to anyone until about 10 people tell you, and even then you seem to have your doubts.

Everyone is trying to help you, but you seem to have a pre-conceived notion before you even post.

Obviously there are some issues with the car and that exhaust setup is complete ghetto. Period.

You can "think" that it is a solid job and it's ok because it has passed emissions. But a quick google tells me this:

The Massachusetts Vehicle Check on-board diagnostic (OBD) emissions test is designed to ensure that your vehicle keeps running as cleanly as it was designed to run, which in turn protects the air we breathe.

The OBD test typically takes about 3 minutes. The inspector connects your vehicle's on-board computer to an analyzer in the station, and then downloads engine and emissions control data.

http://www.vehicletest.state.ma.us/about_whywhat.html

And OBD test IS NOT a "sniffer" test. You can easily pass an ODB test with no cat and a check engine light fooler.

I know you're young and have a lot to learn, but sticking your head in the sand and hoping for the best won't fix your car.

Again...I would take that car straight back to the dealer and make them put a cat on it.

GHETTO!!! who ever did that to your R is a dumb @ss!! It looks cheap as hell homie! More then likely it probably a cheap @ss (No Name) exhaust from ebay or somewhere...I probably would go and talk yo the dealers and have there techs take a look at it. How the hell are you suppose yo take off your header/exhaust?? Oh wait I get it. They must have converted it all into "one piece" for less labor work. LOL GL

I can not tell what is in front of the flex pipe, you need a pic further up.

As for no CEL it looks there is a bung on the top after the flex pipe, a possible o2???
