Default Going with Hondata: P28 vs P72

I have heard arguments for both ECUs. P28 is obviously a more popular choice, easier to obtain and also cheaper.

Do you recommend the P28 or the P72 and why?

you should go with a p28 as there is no reason other than the lack of a knock sensor

the p72 is better suited for the GSR's dual intake runners

That was what I found after doing some research on this same topic.

I ran the P28 with great success.
The P72 as said above is better for the Dual Runners.
Stick with simplicity IMO

did some research on knock sensors. do we not need an input for a knock sensor since we (itr's and other high compression motors) only use high octane gasoline?

won't the ecu need some sort of feedback from the sensor to continually retard and advance timing?

kepani-who's an ecu n00bie...

if for no other reason, get the p28 for price and availability. obd1 p72's are expensive and in demand.

Does hondata support adding a knock board to the p28?

I wouldnt worry to much about the knock since he is gonna tune it with the Hondata and if I know Dennis it will be at Church where Shawn uses a wideband 02, car will run stoich or some **** like that

heh, you mean "stoich," or stoichiometric. This is 14.7:1 ratio of air to fuel when using gasoline. Stoic just means it is the chemically perfect ratio, where all fuel and oxygen is burned completely, resulting in best emissions amongst other things.

Stoich is not a "target" ratio for tuning a performance motor, generally.

sorry to highjack your thread but got a question..
so. when you convert your obd2 to obd1 ecu (p28).. which i'm getting soon too.
-do u have to disconnect the 2ndardy O2 senser?
is there anything other than the o2 senser that has to be converted to obd1?

i went with p72 because of knock sensor.. not that it does anything at high rpm, but something for the piece of mind.. and dual intake runners can be disabled with hondata... nothing wrong with p28 though

No, you don't need to disconnect the secondary O2 sensor.

might be a good idea to pull it, put a plug in the 2nd bung and tie up the harness so it doesnt melt. Keep it somewhere safe in case you decide to go back to obd2 at any point.

The stock knock sensors are worthless. Engine vibration will set them off.
You are better without them. If you get knock, your set up wasnt tuned correctly.
