Default Gauging interest (H-T track day at new track MAM here by Omaha)

White Dragon and I were thinking of having a H-T track day here at our brand new local track (just 20 south of Omaha, Nebraska). Check it out...

http://www.midamericamotorplex.com

Wes (White Dragon) is a part time intstructor there. Great track, no walls and lots of speed (I hit 115 mph on the front straight in my then stock ITR). Very safe track as well.

We were thinking of doing an even sometime in June (anything July-Sept will be hot as fugg here). We were also thinking of doing a weekday event if that works for you guys. We could get such a good rate by doing so. The biggest reason for doing so is that most of the weekend events are already booked so we would be limited in picking a day that works for most. Another thought is that we could do a two day weekday event. Possibly Mon-Tue or just one of those days would give people time on the weekend to drive out.

Thoughts, concerns, opions welcomed.

-Todd

If a two day event is around $200ish, let's do it. I really don't know if that is realistic but if not, let's keep this a one day event. I will find time and dinero to head to the corn fields!

Depending on cost, I'm in for sure.

Like I said before, Aaron, J, Mike and the other IL/WI people need someone intelligent to guide them.

I'd prefer to keep it a 1 day event if it is on a weekday (Friday or Monday I assume?)

I'm not sure how June would work for me either, as I already have one track day planned & paid for on June 23. August/Sept would work best for me, or possibly May.

Just my 2¢

I will talk with the track manager when I get a chance to get a good idea of what it would take to make this happen as far as price and number of attenders that we will need.

If it is a one day event, I was thinking Monday or Friday. If it were a two day event, I was thinking Monday - Tuesday, or Thursday - Friday.

Getting some numbers will help with this, and I will get some rough one's ASAP!

Okay, I have some rough numbers:

We would need about 30 cars @ $150 a piece / day to do this event.

Please post with any questions.

Sounds quite reasonable to me. What if we did 45-50 people, is the track big enough?

As a note, the above numbers were if we did it during the week sometime.

The track is 2.25 miles long and 40 wide, which is both longer and wider than Gingerman. I wouldn't see any problems with getting this many cars, we may just have to run another 1 or 2 run groups.

clubsi at gingerman has about 70 cars @ $70 per person.

maybe less track time, but way cheaper.

maybe you should consider organizing a bigger run so it will be more affordable for many.

if u need help i am glad to help organize also

As a recent mid-west transplant (Iowa City, IA), I'd be down for a trackday in June.

I wouldn't have a problem with another 1 or 2 run groups personally. I assume the track rental cost would be the same whether 30 people or 45? Adding another 15 people (probably 1 more run group) could bring the cost down to around $100. I assume you'd get more intersted people at the lower cost.

I know the ClubSi event at Gingerman, which I am also attending, filled up in less than a month. And there is already a waiting list too.

I think that is very reasonable. I would say let's try to get 30 drivers rounded up first and if more register, great. Not to get OT, but I don't know how that CSi event is so cheap. Our Sunday Speedtrials event in October was $135. Still a fair deal IMO. I'm sure Wes can advertise this on a couple more boards other than H-T to round up interest. Who wants to look at a bunch of high-strung H/A's all day?

Another thing to consider also if there is that much interest, is doing a two day event, but then you have increased costs.

It really depends what the goal of the event is. If it is to get a lot of track time, then we would want to set a cap on the number of attenders. Keep in mind that those that are driving - say from Chicago, may be willing to spend more so that they get more track time - make the trip a bit more worthwhile. Just a thought, but I am open to whatever people want to do.

I agree with Mike.

Chris - who now has a dilemma: Clubsi.com on the 23rd of June, also the day I am supposed to leave for the annual Vegas Trip..... Might have to go to Vegas late because I sure as hell am not giving up track time!!!

It is on a Monday (weekday), unlike the SpeedtrialUSA event, which was on a weekend. Weekend track rental is considerably more $$

I could participate depending on the date, and whether or not I get bumped up a couple waiting lists for driving schools this summer (I have a limited motorsports budget)

I haven't seen MAM since its completion last year.
