Finally got my trans apart
Not fun pulling the trans by yourself with hand tools, using jack stands. Even less fun trying to put it back in. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif But sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
At Expo during my second session as I was going down the back straight in 4th I started to hear a loud banging noise coming from the trans. Babied it around a bit, all other gears seemed ok. Go to a slow roll, put it in 4th, sounds like there are rocks in the trans. awesome lol. Im fortunate there wasnt more damage. the only damage is whats shown below. heres some pics. starting with the drain plug..that doesnt look so hot, but I honestly expected to see big ass chunks of metal. so I kept searching. http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...i/DSC_0004.JPG oh, here they are lol http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...s/DSC_0005.JPG yessssssssss http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/fi...m/DSC_0002.JPG Picked up another 4th gear from a friend and now the trans is back in the car. still have to do the axles and change up a couple other things so didnt get to test drive it yet. hopefully shes back to normal otherwise it will sit another few weeks or months until I feel like effing with it. |
Re: Finally got my trans apart (RTW DC2R)
ouch.... working on transmission always sucks.
I hope that you got the problem fixed https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
Re: Finally got my trans apart (RTW DC2R)
aw man, how much did that end up costing ya?
|
Re: Finally got my trans apart (jgirard)
I think I see where your problem is https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif
EDIT: n/m read the rest of the post.... |
Re: Finally got my trans apart (AssPenny)
cost me $6 for a new seal for the half shaft side of the diff. F replacing the synchros, they work well enough for now lol. I used to gring 3rd and 4th on occassion at full boost and redline, but I reshaped them with a dremel https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif so they work ok. just about all the bearings are new so I didnt even bother replacing them.

Re: Finally got my trans apart (RTW DC2R)

Some Super Glue and your good.
|
i don't know how you did this yourself... it's a PITA with two people!
|
Damn, looks just like my countershaft and final drive, haha. Probably the same noise I heard the entire trip home. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif
Glad it didn't mess anything else up Ryan. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |

With a lift it's no problem solo. In the garage at home with jackstands it's definitely a pain in the ass, but quite do-able. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif Ryan, I'm interested in hearing more abou how you reshaped your worn syncro's with a dremel to get more life out of them..... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif |

Re: (Black R)
Ken I basically tried to "sharpen" and clean up some of the rounded contact points on the synchros and the hub/sleeves so they can engage each other more cleanly. seemed to help as I dont grind anymore unless I get a lazy clutch foot.

Man, you beat me to it....
I dropped my tranny last night. I have not opened it yet, but I went by Harbor Freight and bought some snap ring pliers to remove the case with. Carnage pics will be up either Sat night or Sun. At least you had an easy fix. |
snap ring pliers? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmileo.gif

i use a fuggin screwdriver or two! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif</TD></TR></TABLE> ditto! well finished putting everything back together, checked fluids, started her up and she started like a champ. awesome. then I go to take my food off the clutch, stalls. check the shifter, yup still in neutral. started it again, in neutral, take foot off the clutch, DIES. WTF the car is in neutral, yet the clutch is biting like its in gear. Move through the gears a bit, they feel real sloppy. I fugged up somewhere. I think I messed up the change assembly. dunno how because the tranny case went back on with no problem, snap ring locked in, bolts with bearings for the shifter forks installed, clutch/mainshaft was lined up and dowel pins perfect, soooooo back out she comes. MF'er. PS. IF ANYONE HAS A PICTURE OF AN INSTALLED CHANGE HOLDER ASSEMBLY I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. |

Re: (JjuuN R)
I need a decent picture of the shift assembly below so I can see how these pieces are interlocked:
