Thanks to Yoshi's reference page and Willard's doggade persistance, I picked up some Honda Bond. Cleaned up everything and reattached the tube.

I hope that works for you, but I installed a new tube and several coats of HondaBond when my original tube went loose, and it didn't hold up very long. It lasted maybe 3-4 weeks of street driving (and one autox). But during my first trip to the track the HB sprung a leak and the tube was spinning by the end of the day. I cleaned it all off really good and roughed up the surface, then JB welded the **** out of it. That lasted for maybe 3-4 months and a couple track days, but now it has sprung another leak. I'm not losing a lot of oil, so I guess I'm not going to worry about it until it starts spinning around again.

Yes you can get it at the dealer, but if you read my post, I don't think it will work all that well (unless your car is street driven only and not tracked).

Re: Dipstick t00b is loose... :| (Philly_NBP_R)
After reading all of the responses I am still not sure which way to fix the tube. Mine came loose yesterday at the track and I actually lost alot of oil through the tube after about 45 mintues of constant hard driving. I looked at the area and it was covered in oil.
I am planning on buying a new tube and hammering it in but do I need to JB weld or honda bond it as well?
Thanks,
AW

Is your old tube bent/damaged?
Just clean the end of the tube and clean the hole in the block... apply some honda bond on the t00b and install it. Let it sit over night and inspect in the morning.
Mine is still fine after 'several' hard driving events.

Hi Willard
To keep driving for the day we tried to roughen up the tube surface so it would at least stay put so it is not perfect anymore. The tube is relatively inexpensive so I will probably get a new one.
Did you honda bond just the top surface where the tube meets the block or the section of the tube that goes into the block? I am not sure if the bond will stay on if it is a press fit tube. I assume it would just get scraped off on the block surface?

if it is a press fit the honda bond will not be needed.

Re: Dipstick t00b is loose... :| (Chris N)
I got my new tube today and test fit it in the block and it was a tight fit. Since it was so tight I did not use the honda bond. I just put the tube in, got a long screwdriver and pounded it in from the lower lip. It went in and does not seem to be leaking and the tube no longer comes out when I pull the dipstick.
I did notice one thing different from the old one and it was the width of the lip. It was slightly larger than the old one. Also the tube width felt a bit larger. Maybe Honda recognized the problem and made the tube wider?
Thanks for the help guys!

If that's the case, I'll take this route. Thanks.

Back from the dead...
I'm having this problem...and I do at least 2 days of track time a month, so I've done about 14 days so far this year. I daily drive my 00 GSR and it has 101k on it. Which would be higher recommended, new t00b? Or using the HB method? Or JB Weld?
