I have this same noise, and I am determined to fix it. Mine is on the passenger's side at the base of the a-pillar. I found a service bulletin regarding it, but it applied to 94-95 models. Although from what I've seen, a lot of times the problem is present in later models even though they weren't included in the original service bulletin (like the infamous cold weather steering squeak/groan). The "fix" involves removing the cowl panel and "massaging" an area where several layers of sheetmetal overlap (read:work it over with a punch and hammer). I'll post up the bulletin if anyone is still interested. Once I get mine fixed I'll provide my input as well.

Wow guys, I finally know what you're talking about now, it started happening on my DD (EF hatch) but coming from the right side pillar on the passanger side in between the top of the windshield and dash...
Sounds like crickets on steroids and usually comes up when I'm driving 45mph+
Doesn't worry me or anything, maybe it's just a common problem with Hondas or something...

I haven't attempted the fix on mine yet, still planning to soon. Here's a copy of the info from Honda. You'll note it mentions 94-95 Integras, but I feel that mine has the exact same issue and I plan to try this. Although pounding on the car with a punch and hammer doesn't appeal to me, the thought of living with this noise forever is worse.

My First 98 ITR had this issue and it was fixed back in 99 by the dealer. I believe they used the same method described above or they did some extra welding. It was not noticeable after the repair.

OK UPDATE - JUST TO SHED SOME LIGHT! WAHOO00oOoo that annoying clicking noise is finally gone. I can enjoy my car again with out the creaking noise!
The fix works guys, make sure you do it with someone who knows what there doing. you need to remove the bonnet once you have found the area you will see its covered it a hard silicon material you must chisel this off once your down to baremetal you can then bash the **** out of it using a centre punch.
Once hammered it go test it on a driveway if you can slightly still hear the noise keep hamering a way with a few more hits. After you have finished make sure you apply black paint back to this area so it doesn't rust.
Once this is done and the noise is completely gone I recomend you get this professionally done - PLUG Welding. Drill a hole in the area maybe a 3 holes the weld metal inside this will prevent it from coming back ever again from over time will make that area very stiff and rigid.
THE END OF THE CREAKING CRACKING CLICKING NOISE YaY!! ENJOY =oD

I've been trying to decide if the creaking/popping I hear from the right side is this issue or not. I hate to beat the **** out of any spot on the car if it's not necessary. But it does sound like the creaking/popping is likely from this.
