can the dc5-r be imported to the U.S. from Japan?
I don't know how long ago this question was asked, but I didn't find much info on it using search. I was wondering if there was a company that could import the dc5-r straight from japan, smog illegal and all. Anyone know who can do this? Also what is the site to motorex?

i know there is somewhere in cali that does it and you can get a brand new one for like $35-40k shipped. Anyone see the article in Super Street where you can actually go to japan and buy a used DC2-R with like 20k miles for like $8000 US. Bad part is the shipping back to the states.

yes it can be done, if your serious about doing it, only problem is finding someone to help you do it. bout 20k for the car, 3 for importing it, taht is if you do it yourself. if you go through a company like motorex, you be well over 30k for the car. i know AZ DMV will register just about any car, however i dont think the rest of you guys have it so easy.

if you are in the military, you can have it shipped for free.
It is possible to get DC5-Rs into the united states

Im sure it can be done, although the costs of registering, converting to smog legal/safety and shipping arent worth it in the end. Plus the fact that driving a RHD car on US roads isnt exactly safe either.

hmm...thanks for the replies, I was just considering it, if it was going to be in the mid to high 20's. 30-40k seems a bit steep.

actually, shipping a pov is not "Free", but it is free for the personnel
for each car, the government is charged $3000-5000 to ship anywhere in the world.

Doesn't the DC5R require 98 octane? You would have to go up to the track to fill'er up w/ some super duper premium. That would suck if you wanted it as a daily driver .

I believe Marty (MufenEf7) said this doesnt work
It also might depend on your Rank too. I'm an officer, so it might be allowed. I'll get back with more info.
Reason i say this is because one of my Major just got back from Germany with M3 and it was very cheap for him.
