Default Bridgestone Rival-S 245/40/15

Has anyone tried running this tire up front on their ITR, with a 225/45/15 in the rear? My car has a built NA k20 under the hood, and I'm thinking the 215/45/16's that I'm currently running just isn't going to be enough tire once summer comes along and I start autoxing and doing the occasional track day again. Alternatively, there is the 245/35/17 Toyo R1R that is available in the same 200TW segment, and is only a 23.8 in. OD. I've been considering running that upfront as well, with a 225/45/16 in the rear, but I think fitting a 17x8 or 17x8.5 +40-45 up front will be more of an issue with fitment opposed to a 15x8 +35. I know a lot of ITR guys frown upon running running stuff over a 23OD but I'm not running a B18C, and I think it'll be hard to be competitive running just 225's, as the K20 will overpower the tires fairly easily. I've seen the Loi-Spec guys running a 17x9 +45 with a 255/40 on a stock fender, I asked them about it and they said the main issue is the upper pinch weld, and to hammer it flat, but that is on a 25 in. OD tire.

Just wondering what other ITR owners thoughts are on running these wider tires that are available now, and could help make the car more competitive. Or is the 225 enough tire, and just not worry about it?

are they going to make the 245/40/15 rivals? I always heard of that rumor, but haven't seen anything released.

Maxxis does have a 245/40/15 tire however but you'll need like a 15x10 or 15x9 to run them. Can those fit without fender modifications?

It's listed on their website. You could definitely pinch a 245 on an 8 inch wheel, it is the smallest width you could run with that wide of a tire. I think you could squeeze a 15x9 with a 245 under a stock fender, its definitely been done on 17x8s and 17x8.5s.

You can fit a 245/15 with a 15x9 on an ITR if you had the right wheel, I don't know if that wheel exists for 5x114.3 bolt pattern. I think the wheel would be a 15x9 +35 but would need exceptional brake clearance to fit over the outboard dimension of the caliper. If you are okay with running a 15x8, the Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 is probably the best 5x114.3 option. The Rival S likes to be stretched on the wheel though, some of the BFG drivers have shown data that on a 15x8 wheel there is almost no performance difference between a 205 and 225, so I'd try to run a 15x9 if I were you.

I've been running my ITR in STX for the past few years on the 225 Rival S. I use 15x9 Real Racing Pro 6 three piece wheels on the front, they are 6" backspacing which is pretty close to a +37 offset. They were the only 15x9 I could find for 5x114.3 (5x4.5"). The brake clearance isn't very good on this wheel so I've had to run a .25" spacer with the stock ITR caliper. Fitment to the knuckle is no problem, with probably .5"-.75" of clearance. Fender clearance gets tight. Mine are rolled and I've pulled the fender away from the wheel by loosening the mounting bolts and pulling it over (stretching the fender is illegal in STX but your K20 would put you in SMF and you can do whatever you want to the fenders).

I've heard the 245/15 Rival S will be available this season, hopefully within the next couple months. I'm planning on running it, but fitment will be even tighter.

I've run a 245/40R17 Rival S on 17x9 +45 RPF1s and the tire rubbed pretty much everywhere. Inboard especially, but there was contact at the fender too. My ride height isn't slammed so that could be why I didn't have issues with the weld seem.
