Battery options??
What have you guys tried?
I'd prefer it to be lighter than the stock one and fit in the stock location. Let me know what you guys are using because my damn battery dies on me every other day. I need something that has good life too. I'd sacrifice better life for the weight. Just need something hassle free. Budget = 100 bucks. Thanks in Advance https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif |

Re: Battery options?? (jdmspoonitr)
ken, i just covered this the other day in my ase courses. if your batt is dying on you every other day...you might have a problem with your charging system, ie alternator.
1) what is the voltage of your batt when the engine is off? should be around 12.6 or higher 2) what is the batt voltage when you are trying to crank the car? should not drop by more then 2 volts or so... 3) what is the output voltage of the alernator when idiling and when rev to about 2k or so rpm? should be around 13.5 to 15 volts give or take some when your rpm is around 2k...if it is not within this range then you probably have a problem with your charging system. for a 4 cyl engine...the starter should use about 150 or so amps...they say the batt should be double the starter draw....now this is a situation where weight is of no concern and you just want the batt to start the car and work. but i think the batt must be able to handle at least 200 amps to give you a reliable no hassel start every time. consumer reports gave the kirkland brand batt from costco very high ratings!! i use that in my accord with a 400 CCA rating. that is more then enough juice to start the car and run any electrical system while the car is ideling. i think i paid $40 or $50 for the batt a few months ago, but with the increased CCA, the batt is larger and heavier due to the increase in size and quantity of the lead plates inside the batt... |

Thanks for the input! https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif
I don't think it is my alternator as of now. I didn't drive my car for 6 months a while back and I left the battery hooked up https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emhammer.gif on me. So it drained completely and sat. I think that the battery just can't hold a charge anymore. If I get a new battery and it still acts up then I'll look at the alternator next. |

Where did you get yours from? I'll rather search around town and get one for $20 instead of making people rich and paying $100. |

The price is not good though..... https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif |

I hear that yellow top optima does not fit in stock location is this true?

Re: (Rhetoric)
The price and weight are a GREAT selling point...but you have to understand some things about deep cycle batteries. the deep cycle batt supplies an almost constant usually relatively small amount of amperage. while a car would need a large amount of amps during cranking, but much less to almost none when the car is running.
when you have a deep cycle, the batt continues to put out to the point of it beiong almost dead and then it recharges. inside the plates of deep cycle batts, a thicker layer of paste allow the batt to withstand hundreds of these repeated almost full discharge and recharge cycles. but this then leads to less surface area of the lead plates, thus leading to less power and longevity issues. has anyone owned a deep cycle batt on a daily driver for longer then, say 2 or 3 years? |

Optima started making a size that will fit integras; just picked one up couple weeks ago. |
Re: Battery options?? ([HrZn]4life)
I slapped a Wally mart battery in my car. It has more CA's and CCA's than the DieHard I replaced. On top of that, it was $20 less and had 6 months more warranty than the DieHard.

Re: Battery options?? (HiRevn)
i bought a hawker gp13 the 11 pound battery, and I've had a few problems.
I'm not sure if it is the batteries fault, but basically, if i stall, or if i shut off my car after my car has been warmed up and turn it on right away, my car seems to not have enuf juice to start. It always needs to be jumped to start. I mean it is super light, and cheap but the fact that if i stall and wont be able to start up right away is kinda scary. Any suggestions on if it is the batteries fault or soemthign else? |
