Default Axles for 36MM Hubs

I have 36MM JDM hubs on my caR and want to change out the axles.

It seems there is mixed info on what axles and what you can do to fit.

It seems the most direct option is RSX Type S axles. 36MM hub to a 32mm spline to trans.

Others say 97+ Prelude axles work

Some said CRV works but I think they will be too long (think ride height and distance from trans casing to axle)

Looking for input from anyone WHO HAS DONE THIS and knows the answer. Not I THINK it will work. Or it should work.

I cant be the first person to change out axles on a 36MM hub!!

My local parts store has RSX S axles in stock so if I dont get a definitive response, Ill go pick those up and measure and get back to you guys.

Parts store axles suck. Have you talked to Raxles or any of the others that cater to our community? I need to drop them a line for the same reason, if they can do the larger outer on a b series axle I'll just do crv knuckles instead of converting my ex knuckles over to five lug.

If you have an LSD transmission then the 97-98 prelude cv shafts will work. If not, the passenger side cv input shaft will be 2mm too long and the lock ring won't snap into place. I would recommend dss axle shafts. They have different levels from affordable replacement to $$$ race spec shafts.

If you know how to replace the outer cv joint, then you can use a standard b-series shaft and put on a 36mm outer joint.

Yep. I used 5G prelude base axles on my GSR (B16 trans). I used the original INNER joint mated to a prelude shaft/outer joint. This took me 5 mins. Before I did that, the prelude snap ring did snap in, but the axle seal didn't engage fully. So I had a little leakage.

Driver side worked 100%.

I bought used OEM honda prelude axles for $65 for the pair on ebay at hondapartsunlimited.

However...maybe prelude SH axles would work sans mods. I believe the passenger side is shorter?

This is a LSD trans.

97-98 Prelude Axles seem to be the best bet.

Im assuming your B16 trans was not a LSD which is what made it not snap in with the snap ring.

Correct....it was non LSD. But it did snap in. The axle seal just didn't quite bottom out and seal.

Driveshaft shop stocks 36mm axles for jdm 5 lugs just pick up a set of 97 prelude half shaft nuts. I'm running this set up and have never had a problem. They also have them in other levels for what you'll need

Call the Driveshaft shop or Hmotors..

Hmotors axles were used, however a lot cheaper; if I remember correctly.

And a minimum of 13 years old. I'd rather pay a little extra for something new.

you guys are wild. This is not a crazy high HP car, nor do I need some custom axles.

Hmotors is $375 for used axles.

Those special axle shops are $300+ for axles.

Ive used my local parts store axles on 3 different cars and have never had a problem. For $120 for both axles for a daily driver, that should be fine for what I need.

Just trying to steer you in the right direction. The ones I recommended are $400 shipped for a pair. Not custom high HP axles, just good quality OE replacements.

I quit using the China special parts store axles a couple years ago and I stopped having strange little vibrations and random inner boot grease flings, which is precisely what I want out of a daily driving axle.

Na i understand, and thanks for all the options. I have had good results with the sets that I get so I'll see how they work. I'll report back and let you know how they work out.

Parts store axles are so bad. I always just look for good condition used ones. But I guess that's gonna be harder and harder to find.

Like I said...I got 2 used 5G prelude axles for like $65 or something. I used the driver side as is. I swapped the inner cup from my integra axle on the passenger side prelude axle. Donezo.

I'm thinking 5G prelude SH axles may fit just as-is.

Or...as someone else pointed out, since you have a LSD trans, maybe the 5G base model axles will also fit just fine and not leak fluid.

The axles I posted above are 319 a pair brand new from driveshaft shop put in and go. They're level 0's which sounds like what your needing just an oem replacements. Only down fall with the level 0's no warranty.
