Re: '96 Spec JDM
Doctor Who has been in contact and he's a bit pissed off that some English yahoo has only gone and stolen his Tardis to use as a car transporter from mid nineties Japan.

Not up close. Has a couple of small dings, repainted panels (you'd need a keen eye to see and I've seen worse colour matches on some brand new cars bumpers), wheels would need refinishing to be like new but I'd rather they were original as they aren't bad at all. For the age and given other examples I've seen, I'm pretty happy!

Re: '96 Spec JDM
curious to know what something like this would be worth on resale value, understanding that one doesn't do projects like this for resale, but what would it be worth ?
I've taken a similar approach with my GS-R, I know I've sunk far more money into it than what it would be worth in resale value, so I just want to enjoy it more than anything and knowing I have an almost perfect example which is very hard to find these days.

Re: '96 Spec JDM
Whatever someone is willing to pay I guess. I think it's one of the cleanest about - going by what I've seen online and Japanese auctions. It's good mileage for the age, approx 75k miles. Not all the paint is original but there aren't many with original paint on every panel to my knowledge. If you compare it to a brand new car then obviously it's not perfect but compared to other DC2 '96 Specs I like to think it's at the higher end. They aren't, or weren't, as sort after as the '98 Specs but I think as they age even more the differences between them won't matter so much. Perhaps the fact it's the first incarnation will appeal to more people as time goes on. I addore it.

Re: '96 Spec JDM
Unfortunately Tom is right, these cars are difficult cars to appraise and really it comes down to what someone would pay.
If you want to appraise by market or auction value, it may not be as high as the price someone like us would pay.
This thread, IMHO, increases the value of Tom's car, for me, if I was interested..to others, it may reduce the value ("work not done by Acura")..
I have had offers over 7k for my 1 of ~250 93 Canadian GS-R. I have also had people think it's worth no more than 500 bux..the previous owner, who bought it brand new from Acura and had it for 25 years, basically gave me the car for free (well, I gave him a 300$ gift cert for my companies services, we do remote starts etc, he has never called to use it)
So it depends, really. With my GS-R, it would likely be worth more stock than with a dream list of parts.

Didn't say they were, but to some collectors "dealer/factory maintained" can mean a lot.
Maybe not so much with Honda, but when it comes to 100k$+ it's usually the case for most people.
Not saying I agree with that either, just how the market seems to be which is seemingly what the original question was aimed at.
I do have to say Acura maintained my GS-R very ******* well. So mint. Except for all the problems caused by the fact the previous owner left it on the street for 5years. Idiot.
Edit. I say idiot but he was smart enough to buy a gsr new in 1993..so..meh who knows.. mine now

Re: '96 Spec JDM
Not being content with the finish of the Epoxy paint I used on some areas of the underside, I discovered SEM Ez Coat Light Green.
Exhaust tunnel.
Started on some areas at the back but I need to drop the tank to complete the job.
Behind the front wings.
This picture shows the colour match of Ez Coat Light Green with the factory E-Coat. Factory on the inner part, Ez Coat on the outer. Pretty good, bare in mind the inner is 22/23 years old and the outer has just been applied.

Solution Finish on the rear window and rear quarter glass trims. Needs to be applied about once a year IIRC. No more dressing the trim every month or two. Having said that, I'll still use some dressing to help prevent any fading.

Not sure if I should post this or not. Relocated the alarm siren to clean up the engine bay and make it even more factory looking.
Back together.

Ordered some of that solution finish, thanks.
Is it pretty straightforward to install steering rack bushings? I have some Mugen ones that I haven't attempted yet.

Re: '96 Spec JDM
Is your car JDM or USDM? Looks easier to do on a USDM. I ended up only changing the main bush in the picture. The four on the other side - I couldn't push the sleeve out the middle of the bushings. I think you'd have to remove the rack entirely to do it properly without yanking the rack around too much - you could damage the lines fairly easily and given the condition of the smaller bushes on that side, and the fact the sleeve was so tight to push out, I'd say they were in good shape. No dry rot or cracking. You could potentially do more harm than good. The larger one on the other side that I replaced had an indentation from where it's been sitting against the rack, glad I got that side changed at least.

I have been following this thread for quite some time. Awesome work sir! I can't recall you replacing the steering rack, or having it resealed. I have had to do that on every car I owned with a 92-00 civic/ integra. That is 6 cars with the same failure point. How is the rack holding up? Any drips?
