2000 ITR Revival, Speed-Theory Built
Thought we'd share a recent build with you guys, albeit a bit different from most ITR's we get in here.
Our customer, a member of the site, approached us with the intent of rebuilding his 17X,XXX+ mile 2000 ITR. Compression and Leakdown were wary to say the least, and undoubtedly showed signs of the high mileage. Initially, the customer was interested in a engine rebuild consisting of OEM Honda internals. After some discussion, we set out to do a light N/A build. While the block was at the machine shop, the owner contacted us and wanted to step up to a moderate FI build, that would meet his needs and goals.
The gameplan was now set. Our mission was to build a ~300whp/240tq+ setup, utilizing a turbo that portrayed great spool characteristics and a broad powerband, no-hassle driveability, reliability for a 30+ mile commute to work, the ability to pass inspection if need be done with a few quick changes, and of course one hell of a purpose built street car that fit the customer's needs.
Here's what we ended up with:
-81.5mm B18C5 Block, Wiseco 9.8:1 Pistons, Eagle Rods, GE Oil Squirter Plugs, ACL Bearings, Decked, ARP Headstuds, OEM Seals, Gaskets, Waterpump, Oil Pump, Timing Belt & Components
-Headgames Refresh'd ITR Head, Supertech Stock Sized Dished Valves Black Nitrided *This head was never Port & Polished
-AFI Stage 1GT AC Kit, GT28RS .82 A/R T3, Speed Theory GT-Series Waterline Kit
-RC 750cc, Walbro 255lph HP
-Hondata S300, Boost By Gear, Omni Power 4-Bar, AEM Boost & Oil Pressure Gauges
-Koyo Radiator, FAL Fan
-Hasport 68a Mount Kit
-Competition Clutch 80216-1620 Kit, Resurfaced OEM ITR Flywheel
-Mugen Exhaust, OEM Catalytic Convertor w/ 3" Flange
305whp/257tq @ 12-14psi
*We were very pleased with the numbers the car put down, despite the restrictive exhaust and cat. With a 3" exhaust and no cat, easily would have made the same numbers at less boost. Customer was in for quite a treat Thanks to Hanna @ Roots Factory/Best1 Tuning for the tune
The weather has been pretty crappy, didn't get a chance to get any street footage or outside shots of the car, hopefully will be able to update the thread with some video's and such.

There's no need for "big numbers" for a build like this. This car is daily driven, and will auto-cross much more than drag race. IMO, anything over 350whp starts to get tiresome on the street, it's undoubtedly fun trying to hook 550whp on the street with street tires, but I think we could all say it's not the most practical thing in the world, I've tried

nice build.... I'm sure it would make a lot more power with a 3" exhaust.... that's also the highest mileage itr i have seen

Nice work... But why an OEM catalytic converter? It looks like you guys are with Motovicity judging by parts used (i.e. Koyo, AEM, DEI, ARP, Cometic, etc.), why not go with a Vibrant 3" in/out catalytic converter?

very nice build guys im basically using the same theory with my lsturbo build. mild numbers and reliability are the criteria i have for my build.

This thread really encuorages me to do my build even more. A FWD car with big WHP #'s made for the 1320. I bet this car is going to be really sweet to play with on the street. Not to mention far more reliable.

I miss being boosted, but stock motors + boost don't last too long out on the track; so I decided to go back to NA and try that route. Will more than likely be boosted again once I build another turbo motor (not anytime soon)

The car is super quiet out of boost, really fun to drive, and accomplished all the customer's goals.
Reminds me of my car back way back when
