'01 PY ITR theft recovered shell at IAA Atlanta ... price went through the roof !!!

2001 PY ITR
89,xxx miles
Salvage Title
Theft recovery

Missing:

- Engine
- ECU
- Front & rear seats
- Door panels
- Center console
- Instrument cluster
- Front & rear strut bars
- Rear bumper cover
- Tail lights
- Rear spoiler

Damaged:

- Transmission
- Front bumper cover
- Passenger window broken out
- Creases in decklid and right quarter panel
- Previous paint work (at least 3 shades of PY on various panels)

What did it bring?

$5,000 + $395 buy fee + shipping from Atlanta to Miami

Seriously?

Over the last year, I've been trying to buy a suitable theft-recovered R for a rebuild project. I've gone for 5 or 6 with no success, but this one absolutely blew me away. It seemed like the perfect opportunity. The body was pretty decent, all matching numbers; the 5-lug and OEM alloys were present and complete; and the auction is minutes away from my house. I went out there this morning, thinking for sure this was going to be the day I finally join the club. Not even close. Oh well... I really want a CW R anyway. The search continues...

I think the price was a little high, but it did have quite a bit more than most salvaged ITR's normally do since the 5 lug, front bumper and lip were all still intact

Yeah I bought once fomr IAA out of Norcross, GA last year. I paid $2500 with no interior (only had dash), no 5 Lug, no Engine/Tranny, No front bumper, spoiler or sway/strut bars. I am in it a total of about $8k and she is back on the road looking sharp.

Yeah, for a completed, branded title, R, I would want to be in it around 8-9; definitely under 10. I don't know... maybe I'm overestimating the costs on parts, body work, paint, etc., but I'm surprised at how much $ some of these shells bring.

transmission still looks like its chilling in the engine bay :-O.

on a serious note 5 grand is stupidly way over priced. keep in mind people that know other people counter bid just to screw other people over or at least that is what i have seen happen at Copart auctions. keep looking bud and dont give up you'll find a nice car to restore just be patient.

That is one spendy shell. I'm suprised they left so much in tact though. Good luck finding a good project shell!
