Is this a trick question?... Seriously, it looks like the engine is clean, but that the bay area wasn't prepared or painted properly resulting in corrosion. Was the car ever repainted?

I'm thinking flood or perhaps a fire? Or maybe catastrophic engine damage resulting in oil and other fluids getting splashed and sprayed up on everything.
It looks like everything in the bay was put there after whatever happened happened.

How is the Honda sticker on the crossmember, so clean if the car was in flood damage?

Wow, that's fairly disgusting. I'm surprised they didn't go through that, take off all that "slime" and do the engine bay in rust protectant or repaint it. I'd be scared the front end would fall apart one day. LOL.

I'd have to agree. Flood damage, and the sticker up front was just cleaned.

If it were fire damage, the engine bay would have to be repainted or you'd have char marks all over.

It looms like wax-oyl or something similar to me?, could it be a coating?. If not does it flake?, water damge like that would show up underneath the sills and for that matter under the carpets???????.
Whatever it is get it cleaned yuk.

ok you jokers! that is my engine bay and that is dried up RUSTPROOFING! it's the most disscusting stuff in the world and impossible to get off........that was the time i tried spraying with engine degreeser and varsol and tried to pressure wash it off. it wouldent come out so it dried up like that. it doesnt look like that anymore........

i know it sucks........ but oh well........
