Whats this
I was takink the head on my gsr and broke the red piece. Can someone tell me what it is and do I need a new one or is it not needed
also what condition is my pistons in they all look alright except cylinder 4 is it lean?

Umm you DO need the PCV as this is how the crank case is vented it also help keep seals from blowing out from blow by.
besides there cheap like around $5

the pcv system helps by relieving pressure and pulling moisture from the crank case.
water and oil don't mix too nicely. it's pretty important. just because you can remove one component from the engine and not have IMMEDIATE effects, doesn't mean it's alright to do.
besides, it's super easy to fix while the head's off. farting around back there from underneath the vehicle would be a pain. or you'd have to remove the intake manifold for access later on. unless, as stated, he wants to install a catch can

alright cool thanks guys and I had a feeling it was the pcv valve because when I took the head off the block heard something break and saw that broken piece and yes I am going to replace it and yea I thought that 1-3 was normal for 165xxx miles and my head gasket did blow along with all my exhaust valves lol
