what a nightmare. motor mount bolts snapped
so guys i hope you have some ideas. on the way home today was driving doing 40 and i started hearing this klunking noise so i pulled over and shut down the motor. driveside axle snapped in half and oil pan was almost on the ground. iopen the hood AND all the 3 bolts going into the motor from the motor mount were out engine is dipped down on the side.
the lowest bolt on the motor is snapped in the motor the other top 2 are stripped out.
i was thinking taking the motor out and bringing to machine shop to pull the bolt out and tapp the other 2. anybody else have some ideas?????

Re: what a nightmare. motor mount bolts snapped
thought about that, ran a compression test on my motor and it was 235 across the board kinda sucks just to toss it aside.
my other option is to helicoil, lift the motor up to get to the bolts and get them done, just never did it before

I had the same prob wit my old rex, i just used a dye and tap to fix it...
The linkage could be bent? Check the bushings, and if its not that, it could be tweaked.
But do it after the motor mount is back on perfect, cuz if its not, the shifter WILL feel weird cuz the engine isnt aligned.

Re: what a nightmare. motor mount bolts snapped
i had a b20 in my DA and the motor kept falling, each time i would use a bigger bolt (long time ago ha) needless to say it kept falling so i just bought another. If your looking to do it and have it last i would also look into time-serts
helicoil and time-serts might be the way to go if you have an ITR/CTR, mabye even a GSR, but a 500$ b20 just replace it

The Hasport mounts will induce vibration. Mine have eased a bit, but my steering wheel still shaked 1/8" at idle.
Is this the driverside top mount with two studs and one bolt? Can you post a picture?

Re: what a nightmare. motor mount bolts snapped
I just had the same thing happen... 2 months ago I snapped those bolts and then 3 weeks ago I noticed that 1 backed out and was just hanging there... so I went in there and re-enforced all of them. Last weekend I was driving and I started to get on the gas and then I heard a klinking and grinding noise, I was also stuck in 3rd gear. I quickly turned the car off and coasted into an appartment complex and when I popped the hood the motor was hanging and all 3 bolts were gone. This is very frustrating because it seems like I cannot get it fixed and I do not want to take out the motor and send it a machine shop to get re-sleeved or threaded. I am at a point where I just wanna try and retap the holes one more time myself and see if it works... any suggestions. I also think that my rear motor mount may be a factor... I think the motor is rocking a little more than usual. I have a fully built 1.9 Lsvtec turbo. at first I thought it was due to the fact that I make a fair amount of power but I am not 100% sure. I have hasport motor mounts across the board. Let me know what you think? I am thinking about retapping the holes and putting in bigger grade A bolts...

Re: what a nightmare. motor mount bolts snapped
i went and got all new motor mounts, and i helicoiled all three holes. take a jack and a block of wood and put it under the oil pan and crank it up, you can get to the holes . drill them out and tap them and i used all new oem bolts. been maybe 2 months of driving and there all in there tight
