What happens when you run a motor with a dead cylinder ?
What kind of damage would happen if you say, unplugged an injector harness and started your car ? The spark would still be there...but no gas...what would happen to that piston ? Would it slap around so much that it would destroy the ring and possibly have contact with the valvetrain ? Just wondering.

I don't want to. But some things just cross my mind. I don't really want to try it to find out...so I figured I'd ask and maybe someone could explain it to me. That's how ya learn.

It kinda sounds like a WRX with an exhaust, but it barely revs and shakes like a *****. I kno this because a wire came off one of my injectors.

I've heard of cylinders not firing. It probobly would damage a piston in a long run, but all in all you can get away with it. Alls that would happen is the pistons that were running would be pulling the weight of the dead one, making your engine run like total ****. You'd have no power, and it would sound like all hell.

I think I've heard a civic run with a dead cylinder...sounded like a loud *** lawn mower and wasn't moving fast although the engine sounded like it was being worked.

That would provide no spark but fuel would be going into the cylinder... in which case it would probably eventually come out the exhaust valves and cause the car to pour out blue smoke and get horrible gas mileage.
He was talking about unplugging an injector, which would provide spark but no fuel.

I wasn't suggesting that he go out and drive it like that. Ignition misfires/nofires result in backfires and blown up cats.

I wouldn't have to worry about the car anyways...there isn't one there

Some people with total beaters run their cars all the time on less cylanders firing than what the car came equipped with. The real question of course is whether or not they even realize what is wrong with their cars.
I don't know about you guys but when i hear a car go by or see a problem with
a vehicle on the road I think to myself... hrmm i wonder if the owner even knows how simple that is to fix.

Dude people are just like that around here! If I had a dime for every pinging engine, or muffler dragging on the ground with a shower of blue and white sparks, I'd be a ****** millionaire.

have you ever heard of this?
having a monster sound system
causing to charge your antifreeze and slowly eat up your
aluminum on you engine?
well for me what happened that cyl 3 and 2 mated on the head area
so my car ran like **** I drove lets say about 40 miles but
when we craked the engine there were a lot of areas missing on
the cyl head.
but the shop was able to rebuild the head like nothing happened.
