Default Timing Belt and Waterpump replacement

I have a 2001 GSR at 95000 miles and about to take my car to a shop to replace my timig belt and waterpump.

The shop says that it doesn't matter if the timing belt/waterpump is a vtec one or not. Does it matter or no...or is this shop ?

Thanks for the input.

Yes, it matters. GSR = 22 tooth and the timing belt only fits the GSR as well.

Ah okay I see. Is there anything else I should ask them to change while they're doing the timing belt/waterpump that should be changed around 90000 miles?

Don't take you car to them if they don't even know the difference between vtec and non-vtec.

Well they said 275 max...but I think thats just for the parts alone.
I'm not sure how much the labor would be...
the only reason I'm taking it to a shop is because I'm afraid of doing it by myself
(not that great with cars, as you can see)

So therefore I'm taking it to a shop and plus I'm nearing 100k miles and I hear you're supposed to change it at 90k.

I'm willing to pay anyone on H-T near my area if they would stop by and help a fellow H-T member out!
Dogg said something against it a few long topics back but I'm still in need.

you can order your parts from here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1720782
good service and fast shipping. then take it to the shop and have them do it for you.

Only problem w/ that is that most shops now and days won't warranty the work if you don't buy the parts from them, cause then they loose out on making money off the parts

Would you really think that'd be a problem...because I was going to consider that. Since this shop said there's no difference, I might as well buy the parts I know that are required for my car and pay them for the labor.

As for the warranty...would they really put on the parts wrong just to f**k with me? I just hope they put it on right...and I mean unless I ask them specifically for the vtec parts, I don't think that's what I'm going to get.

Or how about does anyone know someone on H-T that works at a shop that I could take my car too, I'll pay for labor?

Any shop will do the work if you pay them. But a shop may give you the shaft if you bring in your own parts cause most shops won't warranty the work unless you buy the parts off of them, even if you buy OEM or from the same autoparts store that the shop has a commercial account with. I worked for Autozone and my Uncle has his own car shop, so I know the business pretty well. Also, it would be good to know what part of CA you're from.

Yeah, I would have offered to help out also if he were in central cali, but he's too far.

To the OP, I would get a helms or chiltons manual and do it yourself. That way you get to learn more about your car, save some cash, and take pride in doing something most people are affraid to do themselves.

Well I mean...I think I'm just going to take it to a shop then. I would love to do it myself and laern new things but time is against me right now

If I did buy a helms manual and tried to do it myself, first of all I don't have the tools to start with. THen I'd probably take longer than a day to try to do it by myself and I have work throughout the weekends, or school on weekdays. And I know if I tried to do it by myself it'd just take me too long and I wouldn't finish in time to get to work. Plus this is my daily driver, so I don't have an extra car to take my around

So takign it to a shop is my only option so far, unless someone raelly has a great idea that could work, but thanks for all the help so far guys; appreciate it.
