For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
So I recently got a Seibon carbon fiber hatch for my teg, it has real glasses on it with a 3rd brake light, but i ran into few questions/problems.
1. the mounting hole for the shocks on the hatch is too small for the stock shock to bolt on, do i just drill the hole bigger or? 2. the pressure of the shock for stock hatch, would it be too strong / too much pressure for the carbon fiber hatch? 3. the truck light on the dash is now always on, no matter how hard i close the hatch... is this because the hatch is just no heavy enough to trigger off the sensor? what should i do? 4. is the connector for the third brake light different from the one from a stock wing? do i just take the connector off and splice it to make the third brake light work? thanks for all your help HT! |
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
anyone?

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
i wouldnt drill any holesbigger yet.
the stock shocks have to be too strong. for the trunk light, you might have to just adjust it. it should have nothing to do with weight . I dont know if the connectos are different, but if they are just cut and splice. |
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
so what should i do if i don't drill the holes bigger? is there a different shocks i can buy that's made for carbon fiber hatch? because now i have to get a stick to hold up the trunk if i need to work on my car in the cargo area is annoying.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
Have you tried calling the vendor/manufacturer? Thats who I would ask.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
+1, contact manufacturer (Seibon) for fitment issues.
|
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
that will be my last option, but until then... bump!

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
The connector for the stock third brake light is the same for the stock wing. I am not sure if your third brake light housing is the same as the stock one or not so it might have some issues

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
i really can't just drill the holes bigger?
|
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
Sure, it won't hurt anything. Just put tape around so u don't damage anything.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
isnt there two holes on each side? i bought a vis and there is one hole thats hella small. then about 5" above that one there is the correct fit size

Why would that be your last option, I would think calling the people who make and deal with these for a living would be first on my list.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
I have a VIS carbon trunk on my DB7 and the trunk flies open very quickly when I pull the trunk lever. I solved this by mounting an ITR wing on it. I had similar issues with the trunk light on the instrument cluster staying on when the trunk was closed all the way. I was able to solve this by moving the latch on the trunk higher just a few millimeters. Hope this helps.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
the smaller hole i dont know what theyd use it for but there is a bigger hole that should bolt to your shocks but it makes your trunk raise higher, mine opens hella fast too. just keep one hand on the top and beware when you ask someone to open it that they will prolly get a busted nose haha

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
im looking for a cf trunk too is it a big hassle to install and how much did u pik yours up for?
|
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
so the two holes are the same size for seibon which means i can't mount the shocks...
and i've been calling seibon all day long today and it just kept telling me all reps are currently busy, either leave a voice mail or press one to wait, I pressed one like so many times and in the spam of over 20 mins, still, no service..... and that's why calling them is my last resort..... |
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
bump for a solution :scared:
|
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
so i finally get to talk to a rep from seibon, they were not much help... the guy told me to just file the holes a little bigger and keep twisting the bolts in then it should fit...
and about the sensor.... he just told me it is highly recommended to have it installed professionally... well i did.... and he just told me to take it back to the shop and they should be able to take care of it....... wtf? somebody help.... |
Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
try the type R forum ive seen alot of guys with cf trunks on their Rs

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
I would say carefully drill holes. But as was said before tape the area and drill little by little. Don't just go at it with a hole saw.

Re: For those who have carbon fiber hatch / trunk...
did you weigh both? how much lighter is one of these? would be nice if they used thinner rear glass
