Yeah so I know I'm a dumbass. I over tightened my drain plug and stripped out the threads on the pan. What's the best way to fix this so I'll stop leaking oil?

get a oversized drain plug call like pepboys or any auto parts store and ask for one for ur car then thread that in it'll be tough threading it in but it'll create new thrads

Ok, I called Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts and they only carry standard size plugs.

Get a tap and die set, and re-tap the pan threads, and rethread the plug. Or get a smaller drain plug, and use a heli-coil to thread that in.

Replace oil pan.....trust me, it will keep those damn gremlins off your back...

Yeah, he's right. For the price of a tap and die set, or the headache of choosing another bolt, and a heli-coil, you could just get a new pan, gasket, and drain plug, and call it a day.

im tring to tell him but hes offline... i got a 90 rs oil pan with good plug. all i want is 45 dollars. he lives in zepherhills, i live in jacksonville. cant be that far away. for a price id deliver

you can buy plugs called pan savers. Its got a wing nut on one end and a rubber groment thing on the other. Thats what we use at my work when we encounter a stripped pan.

Damn you must have cranked the hell out of that plug. Get a torque wrench for the next oil change.

I'd really like to avoid removing my oil pan (I know its easy but I'm lazy). Anything else?

Short of replacing the pan, an oversized drain plug is your best bet, as stated earlier. Go to a NAPA or CarQuest or something, they'll have one.

Our NAPA stocks them, and they're just called oversize drain plugs.

If they don't stock them they should be able to order it in from their warehouse

Ok....turns out idiot I talked to the other day at NAPA didn't know his ****...called again today they had it for $2.59. Thanks Guys...Now I need torque Specs so I don't expletive this one up!

Oil pan torque spec. for most Hondas are 30 ft. lb.

But, I recommend to just finger tighten, no tools. Then use a box wrench or socket, and give 1/8 turn. Important: always use a new washer.

BTW: Like mentioned in an earlier post, the first time threading the oversize plug will be tougher.

Why a new washer? I've changed my oil like 20 times and have never used a new washer... I haven't had any problem with it leaking or anything.

its not just a washer, its a crush washer. It will crush to make a better seal. They cost 5 cents each and every auto place has them.

ha we americans use something until it breaks. Japanese use and continue to check, which is why they dont break.

pepboys makes an oversized rubber plug same thing happened to me on my gsr **** was leaking so i used the plug until i got it fixed the more you tighten the screw the more the rubber expands works perfect
