Default Steering Rack Adjustment Tool - 40mm wrench needed

The steering rack on my 2000 GS-R is out of whack, the steering assist is crazy high at highway speeds and I don't like it at all. The integra steering is variable assist, so it should be high at low speeds and less at higher speeds. Mine works fine at low speeds but the assist increases dramatically at higher speeds and is way too senstitive to inputs.

It seems like the fix is to adjust the steering rack which requires a 40mm wrench from Honda. I am wondering if I can do it with a normal 40mm box end wrench (spanner) / combination wrench as I could likely source one from tool shop. The Honda tool is not available in my parts. Has anyone accomplished this adjustment without the Honda tool ? Thanks for any replies.

You can loosen/tighten the 40mm nut fairly easily with a hammer and chisel. However, 99 times out of 100, the rack adjustment is not the problem.

Thanks for the reply, I never thought about a hammer and chisel but I have those in my possession. I heard of some members fixing their steering assist issues with a rack adjustment so I hope to try that first - free.

IIRC, a normal adjustable wrench will not easily fit in the tight space (assuming you are doing it with the rack installed).

Thanks for the reply, I was wondering about the fitment issue, but it isn't that much larger than the Honda tool, though I could be wrong. I may need to get under there and take off the cover plate to know for sure.

Since tamboo sent me the tool I’ve had over 9 builds happen in my garage. I’ve accumulated a **** ton of parts and tools, I’ll look around for it, I’m sure it has to be somewhere.

I did Inner tie rods with the tool, but I didn’t know you could use it to adjust the rack too.
