Default Is rotor warping under warranty?

My 01 GS-R with 23K miles vibrates when you step on the brake at high speed. I diagnose it as brake rotor warping. I called a dealer to schedule the job and I told them the symptom. They said that it might be rotor warping and it is not covered by warranty because it is normal wear and tear. Is he correct or should I push the issue?

It fauls under the yofault clause of the warranty.

Get some parts store rotors for twenty bucks each and get your hands dirty.

Had the same problem with my teg. I "upgraded" to Bremebo OE Rotors and Hawk HP Plus pads. Stops great, but I would reccomend less aggressive pads for the street. These squeal a little and make lot 'o' dust.

My research seems to point that warping happens when the rotors gets in contact with water after you have hard driven the car. Such as spraying the wheels as soon as you park. This shocks the metal of the rotor and it contracts. Am I right?

that's part of it, but if your lug nuts are properly torqued you can minimize the risk of that happening

How many ft-lbs should it be torqued?

80 and yes.. uneven or overtorqued lug nuts, washing the car after a hard run, or sitting on the brakes after a hard run can cause warpage among other factors... Lolz I've seen some guys at tire shops go crazy w/ the air gun/impact wrench...

80 ft/lbs I have a cheap torque wrench pre-set close to my jack. The most important thing is to use the proper technique and consistent torque on each nut(thats why I don't use a better torque wrench on them).

what do you mean "pre-set" you keep it loaded/set to 80 ft-lbs? your supposed to dial it down to the lowest setting after your done using it.. or the springs/washers and internals could get crushed and inaccurate... but then again you said its cheap so maybe you don't care or the damage is already done...

I have a "click" type torque wrench and I always dial it back down to 0 when I'm done using it/its not in use

Now I know who over torque it. Because of laziness, it brought the car to a tire shop to have the tires rotated. The guy was trigger happy with the impact wrench. Sh*t.

Now the next question, where can I get a Brembo for a good price?

I don't know if this is THE best price you can find.. but I got mine and was happy w/ the order (it arrived quick and transaction went well) from http://www.collettimotorsports.com (click on specials)

it was $28/rotor for the front per rotor and $10/ea shipping.. this is for Brembo OE blanks...

oh yeah the rears are like $20/rotor and 10/ea for shipping for brembo blanks

and pads (Hawk HPs) were like $80/front and like $50 rear I think.. i dont remember exactly it was over a year ago...

yes hawks do dust a lot.. but they stop well IMO.. I have silver rims and they turn dusty pretty quick... I usually wash my car once a week.. but I've been busy lately.. didn't get a chance to wash my car last week.. now my rims are pretty dusty/dark w/ brake dust...

My brakes also warped at around 21,000km, but the dealer replaced them for me because my car was under 2 years old and had less then 24,000km. They told me that if i had over 24k they would not cover it.

If you have aftermarket wheels then your warranty is on the rotors is voided.
if not you have the 4year 50K warranty on them
I am a service advisor for acura I know.

I do have stock rims on my teg. We bought the car on May of 2001. So how do I go about asking for warranty coverage on my rotors? I called them up yesterday to schedule an appointment and they told me that it is not covered by warranty.

Keep pushing them if they say no, Acura is very customer service oriented and if you keep pushing they will replace them. One of the reasons they want you to pay for it is obviously everyone makes more money if it is customer pay.
One more thing if you have more than 15,000 miles on it they might be not able to warrany it at all.
Don't say I told you this though.

They will probably resurface your existing rotors for free, atleast that's what they did for me when mine were warped. Although, doing this only temporarily solves the problem...as mine are warped again.
