Ricey Sound

My friend got 2.5 piping ... from cat -> exhaust ... he's getting the raspy rice sound. What causes the sound?

Re: Ricey Sound (neXus dc4)

Probably the muffler. What muffler is he running? A standard 2 chamber flowmaster. Cuz that will do it hahahaha.

PiNoY GsR RaCeR May 12, 2004 10:41 PM

Yea what kind of muffler does he have?

hahahah yea it prolly is ... its those ... grey stock look alikes ... but I have one too ... and it doesn't make the raspy sound ...

Re: Ricey Sound (neXus dc4)

Usually that sound comes from not having a cat. Maybe his is blown out or not existent.

Re: Ricey Sound (Sack Master)

its the other way around ... http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif he has a cat ... and mine is blown ... thats what I'm confused about ... the people at the muffler shop said ... I'd get more sound if I had a cat .

Re: Ricey Sound (neXus dc4)

He needs a resinator, thats simple. The cat would help to but he needs a resinator.

Re: Ricey Sound (PissedoffGS-R)

i agree. i think a resonator is whats needed. my car used to have 2.25" piping all the way back with a stock type muffler and no resonator and it was raspy. get the biggest resonator you can for it and it will be deep. good luck.

Re: Ricey Sound (neXus dc4)

My problem is I got a 2.25 custom cat on my universal muffler and it sounds so good-nice and deep tone but when I get past 4RPMS it gets high and raspy which I CAN NOT stand. But some people were saying that its vtec...yah um vtec is not high raspy lol. Its more of a tone change. Someone also mentioned that its a 4 cylinder car thats just how it is??!! But I'm thinking about getting an exhaust in the future https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

as the saying goes....you get what you pay for.... if you were to shell out $500-$700 for a good aftermarket cat back system you would not be having this raspy rice issue. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I've cooked rice on a few occasions in my own home...and not once has it ever made a noise, let alone a raspy one. http://images.honda-tech.com/set1//smile/emcrook.gif

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. Even aftermarket exhaust systems have a resonator...they're there for a reason.

Re: Ricey Sound (ScreaminTeg)

yep, don't eliminate the resonator https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
also some cheaper exhaust mufflers, as the exhaust temperatures get hotter, can curdle (don't know if that's the right word) losing some of their sound deadening, making it sound like you have a tin can on the end of your pipping and not a MUFFler.......rnnnnnnnggggggggggggeeeeeeeeee!!!wtf ffffffff

Re: Ricey Sound (DCcliffjumper2)

also an exhaust leak can have the same affect.. cuz when i got mine installed, they missed a weld on the pipe and u can hear that shit sound like rice from panda express
