Default GSR gearing w/ 195/45/15. opnions please

I have a gsr in my hatch and i currently have 195-65-15s. They came with the Si rims that came off the 7th gen civic ex's. I've noticed that my acceleration from the bottom of the gears is rather slow, and I want to speed it up by getting smaller tires.

I was looking into buying Kumho Ecsta 712 195/45/15.

Is that too small? Does anyone here use that particular size?

it may help your acceleration a bit, but keep in mind your speedo will read fast, and as a result, you will gain mileage faster.

He means it's basically the same overall diameter (height) as the stock tire size. 205/50/15 won't really effect gearing or speedo readings.

195/45 is too small for daily driving imo.
go for 195/55 or 205/50. they will keep your speed as accurate as posible, and the ride wont be as harsh as a 195/45 tire.

also, the kumho 712's are a good tire, but lots of people including myself believe the es100's are better. at a similar price also.

the nitto's 450's are ok, but you should look into es100's or falken azenis in 195/50/15's, those are good.

Nitto 450's are junk.

And your acceleration felt slow because you had balloon-tire-like 195/65 series tires. I have 205/50-15 ES100's on my stock wheels and they are awesome.

hey patrick, just out of curiousity, what are your top speeds per gear? im really curious to see how much tire height makes a difference. Here's mine.

1st - 40 mph
2nd - 67
3rd - 95
4th - 120 (gov).

thx

You must be using the J-spec ECU w/ governor right? Just wondering.

Anyway, tire size will not affect the indicated top speed, or any speed vs. RPM for that matter. The only place a change in tire size will show a change in speed at any given RPM is if you shoot the car w/ radar or laser. Larger diameter tires will make your car go faster than indicated (but will hurt acceleration), while smaller diameter tires will make the car go slower than indicated (but will help acceleration).

Yes I am using a JDM ecu. Is that bad? I have HOndata, but not installed yet. hopeuflly that will fix that.

Thanks for the info. But does your speedometer say the same things as mine when you're at the top of your gears? just curious. thx

Just wondering about the ECU because I know mine does not have a limiter. You have to use a J-spec ECU w/ J-spec B18C because the VTEC pressure switch is built into the ECU. If you want to run a USDM ECU you have to switch to a USDM VTEC solenoid.

Those speeds sound about right I guess. I plotted a graph one time of speed vs. rpm for all speeds from 0-redline in all gears, but I don't have it here right now (graph drawn on paper, imagine that ).
