Default Rebuilding a DC2 GSR

its an original gsr with 160k miles
i did a compression test before i blew the engine and it was
1-165
2-205
3-185
4-145

one day on the way home from work i see a car behind me tailgating on the highway so i see im about to pass me so i drop it to fourth and floor it...and it was a mazda 3 so i started pulling on him and at 125mph i had him by 2-3 cars
i got off at my exit and i hear a LOUD knock but i thought it was the fan hitting something but i went to advance auto parts and while im looking for parking it shut off so now im rolling at 20 mph and i turned the key and click so im like "wtf"? so i put it in first wen i got down to 10 mph and dropped the clutch and i felt like i hit a brick wall but it turned on
the problem now is that it was bogging out like a **** and i got to a stop sign and it died =[

i spun a rod bearing..

i tore the engine apart and saw metal filaments everywhere
and i spun the bearing on cylinder 4...

time to rebuild

these are my plans to the engine

block decked
engine balanced
bored to 81.5
Rs pistons pr3 (81.5 mm)
3 layer head gasket
Arp rod bolts
Arp head bolts
Ls rod and crank (for longer stroke)
Acl rod and main bearings
blox mani
and 75 wet shot =]

im gonna pay a shop to do the body work then paint it myself

i calculated a 12:1 compression on http://www.c-speedracing.com/howto/c...c/compcalc.php

tell me what u guys think

the car

me taking off all the wires to pull the engine

my garage

gsr head without the cams

bottom of the block

Why the Ls crank?? Id stay with the gsr crank there better and stronger. The Ls crank might cause u problems in the long run

Do you have anything to base this on besides "might cause you"...
Why exactly are Gsr cranks stronger and "better"...better for what??

He's doing an OEM stroker, many people have had great sucess with this.
You just need to bend the oil squirters or block them off. There are companies who sell the plugs for them if you need.

You are on the right track, just make sure your head is up to par with the rest of your build.

that's a lot of compression for stock cams. i could see detonation issues. also figure in $500 for a tune and obd1 ecu. another $900 for cams and the VT. not to mention the 2000 you'll spend rebuilding. if you're just wanting a basic rebuild the $1599 JDM GSR engines at hmotorsonline.com are really a good deal. you can sell your blown up b18c1 for $500 and only be out a grand and have zero tuning issues.

definately right with hmotors gsr motor. I threw a rod in my ls, and i bought a gsr motor and dropped it in. couldn't be happier. but if you really want to spend the money while you have the opportunity while you have the motor torn appart by all means, build it up a bit.

i have a ported head and 1600 for a stock b18c is to much..with this setup i should be at 190whp or maybe a lil more

and ive researched about the compression on pump gas and people have run setups like mine for years without problems so hopefully i could do the same

and for the ls crank im going to tell the machine shop to bend them

i picked up my gsr motor for 700 bucks running..

ls stroke is a solid idea.

I would consider getting some skunk2 stage2 cams, with springs and retiners, maybe some super tech valves, spend the money right once..

cam gears but the guy that dynoed my car didn't really adjusted it

my other set up was a LS block, CTR pistons, ported b16 head, skunk2 pro intake manifold, cheap ebay 4-1 header, 3 inch short ram, and ctr cams

that made 189whp and 143 pounds of torque

and yes, your girlfriend loves you a lot
