Raise compression?
How much will only using one or two of the 3 head gaskets raise compression by? Will it be noticable and worth it? the motor is completly stock gsr.

You'll see an approximate +0.3 by switching to a 2-layer gasket. Whether or not that's "worth it" is mainly up to you. I certainly wouldn't pay someone to do the installation, but if I was doing it myself I would consider it worthwhile. |
Re: Raise compression? (Padawan)
I was just wondering b/c im going to be having the head off for valve seal replacement and a freind told me to do this. Just wondering if it is recommended.

Re: Raise compression? (oilguzzler)
Probably just as noticable as putting on an Unorthodox underdrive pulley on...if that.
I would definitley try it tho. |
Re: Raise compression? (oilguzzler)
If the head is already going to be off, I would definitely install the 2-layer while you're at it.

Re: Raise compression? (Padawan)
You want to make sure the head and block mating surfaces are really flat so that it seals correctly because there is a lot less material and more of a chance of blowout. You also have to be more careful about torquing the head bolts down to ensure a proper seal. Also make sure you use new head bolts or ARP studs.
Personally, I wouldn't ever mess with a headgasket to raise or lower compression. |
Re: Raise compression? (oilguzzler)
its a cheap upgrade if the heads gonna be off anyways i went to a 2 layer gasket when i had my head ported and polished you will fill a little difference not amazing but a gain none the less
