Default poping sound

1990 gs Integra
b16a swap

ok well I recently swaped my b18 out for the b16a and now I have a problem.
When I start the car it starts fine all the time but a few seconds later it will start making this constant poping sound. The motor has an open header, I can hear that sound from it. A friend of mine said it sounded like if a piston wasn't working properly....so I did a compresion test and they were all fine.

This motor was on my crx before and it was working fine but after this swap it started doing this.
thanks in advance for any help

when running open header it should make a steady sound....like a deep loud sound. but my motor sounds deep loud with a poping sound.
I had my exhaust hooked up to it and would soud like a gurgle sound kind of...something like how the Subarus sound. I thought maybe something was wrong with the cat or exhaust so that's why now I have it open header.

when u have open headers and ur driving when u let off the gas so the car can slow down itself its damaging the exhaust valves in the head im guessing air flows back thru the headers back into the head...dont do alot of driving with a open exhuast

see but it's not when I let off the gas...It does it when it's in neutral.

It might be running rich like said above I have to check that and the igntion timing as well.

Can the O2 sensor or the Knock sensor be causing this? one of them might be bad or something????

Is it a loud backfiring noise? Try hooking up a cat at least and then listen for the noise again.

it's something like backfiring but not exactly...when I just put the cat on, it will make the poping sound softer...and when the full exhaust system is on it will make that gurgle sound.

something I noticed earlier was that if I give it a bit more gas (3000 rpm or more) it runs perfect, but when I let it idle it goes back to the poping sound.
