my car used to throw out slight white smoke during vtec, when it was new... people told me it was running rich. now it throws out black, and now techies tell me i'm running rich.

my car rattles also at 4000rpm....im assuming its the header gasket because i have a test pipe on and i took heat sheilds off my headers and it still rattles...pretty gay.
and i have stock exhaust system only w/ test pipe.

DIdn't you get it check out before you bought it? White smoke means coolant....same thing was happening to me.
As for the sound.......Is it coming from your engine or the back of the car? This would narrow it down for everyone to tell what's wrong with it.

Re: gsr questions (k20kev)
i doubt its a head gasket or cracked head...when that happens you'll see a lot of smoke and your car will overheat really fast. make sure there is no oil in your coolant.

Make sure coolant in radiator is topped off. Also in the reservoir. Then drive it hard. After, check the coolant levels in both. If they are low....
Sorry to say, you blew your headgasket for sure and you are burning coolant! You should get it fixed ASAP.

Re: gsr questions (jikespingleton)
Your seals are definitely blown. If it's not the headgasket then its something else. You're not losing any coolant right?

your pushing too much psi when your VTEC kicks on... j/p... not sure about your smoking problem... but i believe the knocking is your ignition timing, i had that problem.

Re: gsr questions (jikespingleton)
you should probably find some one on Honda Tech that lives close to you that knows more about B-series motors and have them check your car out. Or take it to a honda mechanic and have him check it out.
seems like it could be allot of different things... i'm sure this forum can stay open forever w/ people telling you what "might be wrong"
