Default which oil to use

what grade and weight oil should i use for a b18b turbo, i put 5w-30 in and it started smoking, i was suggested to use something thicker like 10w or 20w so that it doesn't seep through the seal.

what should i do or are there any other suggestions

use something thicker than that and stay away from synthetics.

Ideally, you want to use a synthetic with a turbo setup because the extra heat breaks dino oil down much quicker than synthetic.

To the OP, if you are burning oil, you need to fix that problem, not bandaid it with a thicker oil. 10w30 isn't going to help with anything since it isn't a thicker oil at operating temperature.

Yep sounds like a valve job and possibly R&R piston rings would be in order. As far as oils, Castrol GTX and Mobil-1 full synthetic are both good.

i was refering to his burning issue. synthetics tend to be thinner(from what i've understood) and as a band aid use some regular, thicker oil.
of course synthetic is better overall.
