Default Oil Pan leakeage...cause low oil pressure?

would a blown oil pan gasket cause my oil light to turn on? I drained my oil to see if its a spun bearing, but no metal shavings, thank god. Now i'm thinking that its maybe my oil pump or my brand new oil pan gasket is blown. anybody have this same problem? Car still runs, but i'm scared to drive it around. thanks

Does your oil light stay on? That's usually bad.

A leaking pan gasket won't reduce your oil pressure. ...Unless you let it ALL leak out & you're 2 quarts low; then your pump starts sucking air. (You wouldn't let THAT happen, would you?) If your 'brand new oil pan gasket' leaks that badly, you'd probably notice a big puddle of oil under the car.

You can check to see if the oil pressure switch is bad; or if there's something wrong with the circuit from there to the idiot light in the cluster...
