Odometer Rollback
How can you tell if someone rolled back the odometer, or unplugged it? All they have to do is unplug the wires to the dash cluster and roll freely. Is there a way to tell? http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/mad.gif

Re: Odometer Rollback (2000gsrsedan)
check to see if the dust that collects on the face of the speedo has been disturbed... it's a sure sign that someone f***ed with it.

Check the pedals, if they seem excessively worn that could be an indication

Re: Odometer Rollback (Angry Joe)
its really easy.......all you do is look at you miles on your odometer and if they are off center that means it has been rolled.

you can unplug the Vehicle speed sensor and the odometer stops counting while its unplugged, but it also throws a CEL and puts the car into limp-mode and the speedo stops working.

After a bit of investigation, I noticed that the plug was not fully connected. Just my 2 pennies... http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif |
Re: Odometer Rollback (B94Cast)
yeah, unplug the speed sensor/gauge cluster, and bingo...no odometer mileage added

Re: Odometer Rollback (B94Cast)
Not necessarily true. If you are chipped, then the codes wont get thrown and the car will function normally, just no speedo. The only reason that I know this is that when I put a new clutch in, I didnt get the speed sensor plugged all the way back in. I started the car, no codes, and started driving. True to the average car geek, I was paying more attention to how the clutch fealt rather than anything else. A little later into my "test" drive, I noticed I had no speedo. After a bit of investigation, I noticed that the plug was not fully connected. Just my 2 pennies... http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif |
Re: Odometer Rollback (2000gsrsedan)
no.no.no....this is how you find out. in the actual ecu there is something that keeps track of the cars milage. so all you have to do is take the car to the dealership and they plug in there gadget and it will display true mileage of the car from the ecu's point of view. im sure of this
