Re: Octane on an LS (tony4311)
There are lots of factors. Some gas stations do actually water the gas down.
BP and Shell are definetly noted in the industry for not having better gas. Where as Mobil and Chevron both are regared very highly. The difference in the numbers indicates the oxygen ration with the fuel and equates to points. Basiclly the higher the number the more oxygen. More oxygen equalls a bigger combustion. In Europe you can get as high as 100. In Japan i believe you can get 103? Thats why you see octane boost in stores such as 104. Try for yourself the difference when you fill up. I have a b18b1 at about 169hp, I use the same mobil station and premium every time. If i am going to the track i will put a can of octane boost and bring it up to 100. It runs smoother. On a fill up its worth the extra $2

Re: Octane on an LS (PaChiLa Leader)
I most commonly use Hess, Gulf, and Exxon. Premium only. Has anyone ever used the Sunoco with the extra octane in it? I think its 94 or 95 or something..

I would try to stay away from hess, they have a bad reputation. A way you can check is get some gas in clear cansiters and look at the different shades.

Re: Octane on an LS (4doorLS5spd)
well from what i've read from past post it comes down to this one conclusion. IF your car can handle it then use it...if it's stock then there's no use in pumping it in. It's all in your head, the higher the octane the more compression you need to burn it.
So if you don't completely burn it all then you'll be left with deposits on your injectors and end up loosing performance in the long run.
Just my though on the subject.

Re: Octane on an LS (95integraLS504)
basically, extra octane when it isnt needed is useless, but who is to say if the car can use the extra octane or not?! the new civic si says to use 87 octane. the car was dyno'd with 87, 89, then 91 octane gas. Each step up in octane yeilded a few extra hp and tq. (the car made about 5whp more with 91 octane than 87 octane fuel)
I use 91 plus octane boost... but thats a different story. I need that to run safely. (which sometimes isnt enough cuz i need more octane) For your cars, simply running 87 will be plenty safe enough. But as previously said, advanced timing will require better gas, etc. etc.
