RPM is at 1and a half but when i drive it, it will stay at 2. i have a code but it have to do with the water switch or something i know thats not it. one of my buddies told me my center cam cap might be clogged. could that realy make the vtec not pop? i did the test on the solenoid its clicks when not running but i tested it while running no click or rpm change.

if you'd just swapped the motor, or haven't had this running before, just so you know, the gsr vtec switchover is very subtle. not like a b16 or h22.
which intake manifold are you running? which pcm? what are the exact codes? is this a swap? or original chassis?

Re: no vtec still
Pull the code it may have everything to do with why it isn't working. What do the RPMs rev to at the highest point? What ECU?

Seriously don't post again until you put up the code. There is no "water switch" code.

Re: no vtec still
There's a coolant temp switch issue? You know the VTEC solenoid and coolant temp sensor have the same style plug. You probably plugged them into each other when u swapped the motor. Check that.
Also, VTEC relies on coolant temp to operate. It wont operate till the ECU knows that the coolant is up to operating temp. VTEC engagement relies on quite a few things including coolant temp, oil press, speed sensor input, tps position....etc. Read the sticky thread about troubleshooting VTEC inoperation issues.
If you have a code for the "water switch", that could DEFINITELY be it.
Check what I suggested. Pull the code. Post the code here. Post which engine and which ecu you have. When did this problem start? more info helps. The info u gave us kinda sucks.

Re: no vtec still
Which ones is it the fan switch or the TW sensor? The thermostat connector is the fan switch and wouldn't cause the code, the TW sensor missing would however and is code 6, which will prevent VTEC from engaging.

Re: no vtec still
ORLY??? GSR VTEC with the stock P72 ECU is at 4400 RPM. U sure u know when it "cracks"? 6000 RPM is when the butterflies open and GSRs start movin. Nothing perceptable happens at the 4400 RPM VTEC mark. So..it's actually fairly difficult to tell when VTEC is active with a GSR.
