Default Burning oil when engine braking 1990 DA (stock)

So I've searched up and down to see if anyone on here has had this problem. so before you berate me for missing the one forum on here who's had this problem, just lettin yall know that i looked.

so anyways ive swapped my engine from its classic B18A1 with 250k to a classic B18A1 with 65k on it, or so they say.

the motor runs awesome, no weird noises, ticks.or loss of power. only issue is when coming to a stop or rolling downhill,

i smell burnt oil and start seeing blue smoke out my tailpipe if the tranny is in gear

if i keep my foot slightly depressed on the gas pedal the smell and smoke arent as bad but are still apparent.

no burning or smoke what so ever if I'm out of gear

these were done after noticing the problem and has not fixed it.

AEM cold air intake---MSD external coil----DC sport headers----NGK iridiums----rmfd dizzy---ECU

im losing about a quart a month and i drive 80 miles a day. its not a lot, but its still a problem
any help is appreciated.

Maybe bad or clogged PCV, breather box or vacuum lines.
Probably bad valve seals, worn piston rings and glazed over or worn cylinders.

would the oil pump have anything to do with it? Ive noticed that on cold starts the oil light stays on and i hear a metal on metal noises until it goes off. when the light goes off the noise goes away.

Do a wet and dry compression test, that can help identify how oil is getting into the cylinders.

And low oil pressure + metal on metal noises is a very, very bad thing. If you have abnormally low oil pressure on cold starts it wouldn't surprise me if your oil pressure is low all the time, get an oil pressure gauge and see how it is. The oil pressure light is an idiot light, by the time it comes on there's a good chance the motor is already screwed.

Also what oil weight are you running?

But yeah, used engines with "65-70k miles" are usually a lie. Nobody has any clue what the mileage on those things actually is and you can't prove it either way.

A little valvetrain clatter for a few seconds at start up until oil pressure builds up, is normal, as is the oil light being on for a second or two. Now if the light is on for longer than normal and or the noise is excessive, thats a different story...

Is it burning more oil while downshifiting to engine brake? That doesn't make sense. How do you know that's the case?

That is a trait of bad valve seals. The vacuum additional created by engine braking, sucks oil out through the valve seals and into the combustion chamber.

yeah it definitely burns oil only when downshifting/engine breaking. the light goes away and engine sounds normal after about two seconds only when cold. after that startup is as normal as can be.

i can see it being bad valve seals as the backpressure could be causing oil to seep through.

i replaced the pvc and nothing changed.
