New guy
alright everybody, how you all doing?
i am new on this forum and this is my first post. i drive a 1996 acura integra Coupe RS with B20B swap and ofcourse 5-spd. i am hoping you guys would be able to help me out as much as you can. all help will be greatly appreciated. my B20B is getting old now..lol..i mean it needs a lot of work done and my buddy who is a mechanic recommands buying a new engine instead of repairing this one. first of all, mileage is too high on this engine, and leaks oil. second, its costing me $500 to re-built/fix the engine which includes new timing belt, water pump and etc. while on the other hand, for the same amount of money i can get a new engine with low kms in good condition. so my question is, what engine would be best for my 96 integra RS? i am thinking about putting a B18B? your inputs are always welcome. thank you |
Depends on price and what are your goals?
|
500 bucks Isn't too bad.
But, you can get a b18b, boost it and make 200hp+ on stock internals with a good tune. |
thanks guys for the input.
well honestly i am just looking for a engine that is good in the long run. i am not looking forward to install a turbo at the moment. and price is very flexible. my gf's dad owns an engine shop so i am not worried about pricing a lot. i am looking for quality engine and once i find the engine, i can buy it for the price i want to. PhantoM.DA: a very good idea. i love power/speed but i am still in school (university) and i am always driving around, so basically i want a fuel efficient engine. :) |

^ V-tech is nice to have bu premium gas bad if goes back to $1.70/L..lol... i am debating between B16A and B18B. is there any other engines better than these two besides GS-R engine?
|
Vtec
and how much do you want to spend? |
lets say i buy a GS-R engine. would i need to buy GS-R transmission along? or my current transmission (i think its original transmission currently) would be work fine?

If your gf's dad has an engine shop then I would just rebuild the B20. The B16 is a great motor but lacks the torque. It is quite fun to rev but after having an engine with the torque of the B20 I think you would be a lil disappointed. A GSR is a great balance of both and is a very good choice for a quick swap. The B18B is a good quick replacement also. There is an upside to going with a vtec motor now though; you can swap it in and then build the B20 slowly and when your ready swap on the vtec head. Then you will have an awesome naturally aspirated engine. Its all about how much you really want to spend.

It all depends on what you want/looking for.. I say rebuild the motor and throw in some high compression pistons..
|
That's an easy question. If I could get an engine rebuilt, plus the timing belt water pump etc swapped, for $500, I'd do that, instead of shopping for a new or used engine.
|
sorry its kind of noob question..what you guys mean by rebuilding the current engine i have. new spark plugs? pistons? i am happy with my B20's torque but if i am to fix it, with the money i am gonna spend on it, i can buy a new engine with zero problems. my b20 is leaking oil around head gasket area but its not the head gasket. needs new headers cuz they are rusty and when engine warms up smoke comes from under the engine area, through headlights edge and stinks. basically engine needs to be pulled out checked and fixed which would cost me a lot of labour.
well to be honest, power isn't really what i am looking for. i am looking for fuel efficiency, an engine with less consumption. based on my situation what engine do you guys recommand of the two: GS-R or b18b? thanks |
I would go with the gsr then. What we mean about rebuilding is replacing every gasket, seal, and bearing in the engine along with oil and water pump and spark plugs... You would need to have it honed at least with new rings, you do not have to replace the pistons unless you just want to bump up the compression for a lil more power.

alright cool...thanks for the input budd!!!
