You gotta upgrade your vtec solenoid to the special ported one's to get mad Vtac. Here's the for sale link

my speedo isnt actually working it just took a dump...does that affect vtec? and yes it is a swapped motor, B20 with a B17 head, the stock head from the GSR motor that was in it before it blew

Re: (projectTeG)
x2 the motor needs the speed sensor to be functioning along with numerous other things you mentioned i.e. oil level/pressure, eng temp etc. fix the speedo and hopefully it'll work after that GL

Yo dat VTEC gotta getz to poppin' shawty or you ain't on the realz.
Yeah I think your VSS might need to function correctly in order for VTEC to engage since it is Oil pressure and RPM based...
By the way, if your VTEC "pops" you might want to get your car looked at ; )

Well, looks like I did my good deed for the day.
lol, seriously, if you have a cable speedo, your VSS is actually part of the speedometer, and not on the tranny. there's wiring going from the speedo to the ecu. i know 90-91 tegs are like this, not sure about 92-93. 94+ don't have cables, it's all electronic. if your speedo's not working, make sure the cable didn't get unhooked from your tranny. look straight below your throttle body. you'll find it. make sure it's seated into the tranny good. there's a retaining clip on it that should click when it's properly seated.
