My '94 Integra Won't Pass 80 Mph
Just recently, I traveled about 400 miles with my car. Noticed that there was absolutely no power once I hit 80mph, and when going up inclines (even if very slight inclines), I wouldn't have power past 66ish. Within the last couple days, the startup has been acting weird. When I go to start the car, it will instantly die, like it is stalling. At first I thought it was because I was unknowingly releasing the clutch, but I checked, and that wasn't the reason. A friend says it sounds like a timing misfire.
The timing belt was replaced last year, and I just took it to a shop today to have the computer tested for any error codes that it might have been throwing. They said no codes were shown, and that everything seems fine.
Just this month, I had the battery, and oil replaced.
What would be causing my car to act like it is stalling on startup, and also preventing me from going highway speeds?

Did you get it to run? Sounds like a fuel pump. The reason you dont have power going up hills is because your pump isn't sustaining the proper PSI levels. Do a flow test and post up your results If of course you can start it up... Other than that, turn your key to accessory and listen for the pump. If there isn't a small whine coming from your back seats, it be dead.

Its been kinda a hit/miss with the startup. Yesterday it acted fine, but the day before not so good.
is this what you are talking about for a flow test?
I've never noticed a whine, but prolly because I've never tried to hear it. Will check it out today before leaving for school.

OK my fuel pump went on my truck and what i did is listen for the whine sound when you turn your key to the ACC and when i didn't hear it i used a rubber mallet and hit the bottom center of the gas tank. (not super hard but give it some power behind it) and then try to turn the key over. It should work. But you will have to replace it ASAP

just tried the acc position, and theres a noise that sounds like a radio antenna that i am assuming is the fuel pump bc its not the antenna. thats not to say it doesnt make a sound when i cant start it, or that it isnt producing the proper psi levels bc i still havent tested it. need to find someone to help me with that.
one of the employees at the shop i took it to to have it tested for codes said that my spark plugs could be the reason it is strugling on highway speeds, but i want to know for sure what the prob is before i start aimlessly replacing parts

spark plugs could definitely be the source of your problem, if you havent done a tune up at all recently, i would suggest doing spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and a fuel filter, sounds like your car needs it

I had the oil changed just after the trip. I'm sure that wasn't/isn't the problem.
gonna see if anyone I know can help me check the fuel pressure, plugs, and filters today. I'm not trusting my self to do it alone

yes many people recommend changing the fuel filter every 15-20k because they believe if it gets clogged it can cause the fuel pump to go out, your fuel pump is still good, if it was bad, your car wouldnt move or start up, could be clogged injectors or fuel filter, luckily most of the solutions to the problem your having are cheap fixes

would that also fix my <80 limit, or is that possibly something else?
There isn't a governor in my car, is there?

no there shouldnt be any governor especially set that low, that could be caused by a faulty fuel filter, just let us know what the verdict is once you get it checked out

thats what I was thinking, but a friend mentioned the governor, and I thought I would just ask.
Prolly won't be for a couple more hours before anyone can help me check it out.
Gonna take it into a shop tomorrow morning, if I can't solve it myself, and have them look at it more extensively then just scanning for codes. If anything, I'll know by tomorrow night if anything is faulty

Re: My '94 Integra Won't Pass 80 Mph
heres my opinion......
if it was a timing problem, if you actually got it to start the motor would look like its having a seisure and hop around or "vibrate" in the bay "depending on ow messed up the timing is"...so that doest sound like what you have.
my opinion is that you have a general upkeep problem.....like stated before the basic replacements will probably do wonders for your ride. but i think a new feul filter and fuel pump is what the doctor ordered to fix you mph problem......and you might as well replace spark plugs, wires, and dstro while your there!! good luck, its an easy fix

Re: My '94 Integra Won't Pass 80 Mph
just took it into a shop. didn't have the tools to check out the parts myself.
Will post the results at the end of the day
----------------
The shop just gave me a list of stuff:
►Thermo stat is stuck open
►spark plugs, wires, rotor, and dist cap need replacing
►Fuel Filter needs replacing
►Throttle body needs cleaned
►ac, power steering, alternator belts need replacing
►valves need adjusting
►front/rear brakes need replaced
►Ac needs to be charged
im guessing once I get the spark plugs/wires and filter replaced it will cruise the highway like its supposed to?

Hmm my old integra experienced something similar, what the vedict was one mine was.... the timing was off by one click and because of the timing a couple valves were bent.

Take the shops advice and do a major tune up, valve adjustment, plugs and wires, rotor, [a dist. cap may not be needed but can't hurt] definitely a fuel filter, I would also replace the timing belt, not cheap but a lot cheaper then if an old one breaks, replace the other belts. 94
