multiple misfire under load/acceleration, 00 LS Auto
Long time reader, first time poster, great site ya'll have. I've searched quite a bit and haven't found the answer I'm looking for.
155k miles, stock engine (only mod is a K&N filter installed about 9 years ago at 50k mile mark).
about 2 weeks ago, I was driving and the check engine light flashed and then stayed on as I was accelerating up a hill.
I tried the paperclip trick, does not work for my car. Code reader at auto parts store said, misfire multiple cylinders.
Changed cap, rotor, oem acura spark plug wires (155k miles on those), ngk platinum plugs (70k-ish miles on those). 2 plugs were a brownish color, 2 had black soot, but definitely different. I can post pics if needed.
I didn't do it all at once but over the last few weeks, code has came back again and again (also made sure to disconnect battery for 15-20 mins to clear code).
Took it to acura, they got the same codes, but couldn't not get it to misfire. As soon as I pulled out, under 25% throttle load, it misfired (threw a code). Turned around, yelled at them, and got my money back.
Auto parts store said again, multiple misfires, all 4 cylinders recorded.
cleaned iacv, fuel filter (which was filthy, never changed before). Code stayed off for about 30 miles, and flashed and stayed on after 50-75% throttle going up a hill.
Has anyone had this problem and solved it? I'm tired of throwing parts at it. I've searched but I've changed all suggested parts. I have several guesses, but i don't want to guess, I want a "i had the same problem (multiple misfires under load), and i changed ____________" and it went away.
Thanks in advance.
also, idle is kind of funny when it's cold, not dead on like it used to be, will blip up about 100 rpm, down 100 rpm, every 10 sec or so, randomly.

Sounds like you need a whole new distributor. Test with a known good one to be 100% sure. This is exactly, EXACTLY what happened to me about a month ago. I replaced cap, rotor, plugs, and wires with no luck. Ordered a complete distributor from rock auto and problem cured.

No compression test yet, that is a good suggestion. Going to need to get access to one of those testers.
Plugs are brand new ngk platinums.
