If I'm sticking w/factory components and a factory-like build I'd want the higher CR, especially if that CR is coming from the head and not higher domed pistons.

I don't agree with LS-V, but if it's done right, it rips.
Sure they can rip - no doubt. In this guy's situation I'd not ditch a good GS-R block in efforts to build an LS-V though. I think we agree here, in fact you followed with one my personal beliefs too:

I like motors that haven't been taken apart though. Factory Honduh stuff makes plenty of power for this guy.
I'm running a 100% bone stock 1998 B18C5 in my 1992 Civic (in signature) that I've owned since 2000. I have ran it as hard as I've ever wanted, and it has not ever given me an ounce of trouble. I'm not kidding when I say that it has never even leaked so much as a drop of oil...and it still has all of its original 1998 cam plug, cam seals, crank seal, distributor, distributor o-ring, and even oil pan gasket. It also does not smoke at all either - Honda just got it right.

If that engine ever starts smoking, or gives me serious troubles I'll have a really hard time with what I want to do. I'd probably go back factory parts depending on what fails, or possibly even a K swap and leave it stock too.
