won't the paint melt and run? i've seen pics of clusters with paint all over the place from doing this. seems it'd be easier just to buy new bulbs.

Why paint them and take the chance of the paint melting and runnning, when you can go to Autozone and pick of 2 packs ( 2 bulbs per pack) of R194 red bulbs for $3 a pack?

Using banner red spraypaint from Krylon owns all. Its thin enough to shine through, yet thick enough to have an EVEN glow..not blotchy.

why did you paint 6 of them?
I'm sure the paint itself is more expensive that the red bulbs, plus you have to wait for it to dry and worry about it running

either the bulbs are too dark and wont let light out or dark pictures, but why not buy the red lights?...i would say ot would have been better buying red light bulbs....but whatever

im sure he knew of all of the Pro's and Cons before doing the project. C'mon guys, cant any of you just C this little expirement for what it is. just because they wont really last long doesn't mean you cant try something out for fun. Good job on the DIY.

If you didn't use a resistor in line with those LEDs, chances are they will overheat eventually and burn out, unless they are 12V LEDs.
Check out superbrightleds.com, they have replacment bulbs for just about every automotive application.
