lightweight flywheel w/ supercharger?

hi. i was wondering if it would be a good idea to get a lightend flywheel when you supercharge. would a 9-10lb flywheel be best or would a itr flywheel be better? thanks alot

Lightened flywheel can't hurt, unless you are a drag racer.

im confused. how would a lighten flywheel hurt a drag racer?

granted people say you lose torque etc...

thats not true. your rotating mass is lighter however (flywheel) and therefore easier to spin. I would not call that a loss of torque however.

lightweight flywheel= http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif regardless you're supercharged, turbocharged, or naturally aspirated.

Nothing to do with torque. For those hardcore drag racers, there is a loss of momentum. The lighter flywheel will not store as much energy when you rev up for launch. I dont' drag, so this is not a concern for me.

For anything beside a drag launch, there are no advantages besides ease of take off due to the extra weight of the factory flywheel.

Less rotating mass is gooood. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif It allows your engine to spin up quicker. I don't think this is measureable as torque increase on the dyno though.

...and it means less wear and tear on your motor! http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emthup.gif Unless you constantly rev the piss out of it... http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmilep.gif

Your revs may also drop quicker with a lightened flywheel

would a supercharged car be faster with the lightend flywheel? thanks

Same rules apply for a supercharged car. It is a good mod. Do it if you have the money.

If you just want to be faster, there may be better mods out there though. Pully upgrades etc.

so basically a lighter flywheel lets you rev up quicker. so would your times improve? i know there is no hp gain so im trying to figure out if i should get one for my b20 that will be turbo eventually. im going to put in a new clutch and so im trying to see if another flywheel would be worthwile, or just spend it on something else.
