integra gsr or maxima se???

I know in an integra forum most of u will say integra, but any points you make would be greatly appreciated. Over a few years ived saved 12,000 to buy a used car. I narrowed it down to 94-99 teg gsr or 95-99 maxima se. Maximas are able to get high 14's stock and the teg is low 15's i think. I plan on doing the usual bolt ons and plan on a supercharger in a year or two. What do u guys think i should get and why???

dohc-nyne 06-10-2003 08:11 AM

integras are sexy and maximas arent

two totally different cars (having driven both and having a family that only buys these two types of cars).

if you're looking for a fun around the towner then get the gs-r.
if you want more room, a smoother (quieter) ride and still a little power get the Maxima.

maintenance-wise they are about the same. I think you'll get a little better gas mileage with the gs-r.

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (Tweakmeister)

I have both. 95 ls and a 95 gle.

The suspension work has been done on both. However the cars are used for different purposes.

You have to ask yourself what are you need the car for over the next few months/years. the Teg is faster off the line (with a 5 speed), but the Max is a dream to drive at high speeds due to its heavier feel, stability, and v6.

Nissans don't hold up well. not trying to turn this into a Honda quality 0wnz j00 thread, but i thnk you'll have less problems with the integra later on.

and secondly, WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK???? https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (Tweakmeister)

but interms of gas millage you must use 91+ octane in the gsr so in terms of cost of gas they are pretty much the same. for just straight line performance id say to get the max https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif but if you plan on autox/road race the teg has great aftermarket for suspention

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (VTEC_1)

My other car is the 99 Maxima SEL.
I'm pretty happy with the power the car has right out of the box.
The area where Maxima needs improvement is the suspension.
Can you say minivan rear suspension ?

VTEC_1 06-10-2003 08:22 AM

Sadly i live in oklahoma where the roads make giant squares, so straight line speed is more important than suspension. Would the tegs insurance be much higher?

Re: (VTEC_1)

yea the gsr insurance is crazy man https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif
the max insurance should be cheaper....well i believe cuz it is a family sedan
also if you get the teg you will have to worry about theft and everything

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (VTEC_1)

I was in the exact same situation you were in a couple years back. I couldnt decide between a 3rd gen intergra or 4th gen maxima.

Here are the pros of the 4th gen max:
bolt-ons give you good gains. A simple y-pipe will give you ~10-15hp. ~20hp with a new catback and pop charger. Reason is because the stock firewall side downpipe actually runs against the exhaust flow!
chipping the ecu gives you good gains. jim wolf technology can chip it and give ~10hp easy
95-96 4th gens are the lightest 4th gens and run mid to low 15s - with just those mods ive listed alone you can hit mid 14s.
There is a bolt-on vortech sc kit avail. people who have it run mid to low 13's
the ride comfort of the seats are the best ive ever sat in, they make 3hr trips very nice.
you can slap on some koni yellows - you have to make a cut but they work
ground control makes coils for them.

cons:
hard to find in 5-speed manual, especially in black.
non-independent rear suspension - nissan went cheap on the 4th gen and the rear end is sloppy. ever see one at an autox? 3rd gen maximas own the 4th gens in this area. you can get a sway bar to try and fix this.
handles pretty well for a 3300lb car but it's no integra.
4th gen manual trannys tend to suck - the good thing is you can usually spot a bad tranny if it is leaking under the car or you hear tranny whine. walk away if you do. even if it's just a sweat, it will develop into a big problem.
4th gen doesnt have vtc (like vtec for nissans) like the 3rd gen ve engine or the newer maximas. in other words the power band will suffer slightly.
bigger car - turn radius will be bigger.

check out maxima.org for more, their forum rocks.

please tell me your not thinking about getting a maxipad

xx dc2teg xx 06-10-2003 08:44 AM

as stated above to different kinds of cars, depends on wut you want. Do you have afamily or plan on starting one? I owuld get the maxima then cuz its more roomy. Obviously to teg has more aftermarket stuff for it and handles hella better. BUt its your choice

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (VTEC_1)

all integra all the time.....if u want a family car and easy access to the back seat go maxima..if u want a faster, better handling car with more parts available along with help modding it go integra....its not hard to see why the integra is one of the best cars out there

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (integrase96)

integrase, not trying to bash or anything but the maxima actually was tested faster in the 1/4 mile and im pretty sure 0-60. Now if u mean the teg has alot more potential to go faster, thats completely understandable. I think i will go maxima because of the lower insurance and the high theft rate of the gsr, but ill always have a soft spot for tegs. Thanks for your help everybody. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/embeer.gif

Nissan's newest cars I think are hideous... I throw up when I see Altima's, the new sentra's are almost as bad, maxima's are probably the only half-way decent looking one and I would still take an integra over it.

xSCTYGx 06-10-2003 05:06 PM

lol u ask this question on the integra forum..of course theyre gonna say integra...same as if u would post on the maxima forum..

But i would have to also say the gsr dude...maximas are too heavey!

Only thing i can say is test drive both the cars, and see which one you enjoy driving more. Thats really the only way your going to be able to tell, test drive em, and decide from there.

Re: (BucsJosh)

maximas are definatly fast. My buddy and i had a little friendly competetition between us and this rice boy who ahd huge chrome rims and some air bags with nothing less tahn teezas y0! perofmance consisted of muffler an underdrive crank pulley and intake.

my car was a "heavily modified" externally LS motor. CAI, DC 4-1 Header, Test pipe, Exhaust, SCI ignition, msd distrib and coil, msd wires, AEM pullies, 7.5lb flywheel with act xtss clutch and a good amount of weight reduction.

the results were as followed: i beat him off the line, by about 2-3 carafter 70 or so he just pulled and pulled gained about a car length every 10 mph so we shut it down at about 85 or so. My buddies GSR beat him off the line a little less than mine did (clutch and flywheel helped my launch). and the maxima BAAARELY pulled on it, about 3-6 inches ever 5 mph.

Maxima is a quick straight line car but god, the thing is a boat for handeling. If you're and older sorta guy who might have the possibility of having a family in the next 5 years or so don't get an integra cuz you'll get attatched to it and have to sell it for a larger car. Get the maxima if that's your case, otherwise you'll love the teg for all its worth!

Re: (N T R Z R)

As far as the autox question has been invoked. There is a Maxima in our local region that kicks butt and is usually seen beating out Integras that are done up pretty well. It's always a constant battle, I would debate this on a family issue.

Since I don't have a family ie. kids, the teg works, but if I had family to lug around the max is a very nice ride.

Re: (snoballgsr)

I've owned a '98 SE Maxima..and a few Integras..the Maxima is hands down the better car of the two...more power...better ride.

Re: integra gsr or maxima se??? (VTEC_1)

If you want handling and like keeping the motor at redline without worrying about breaking stuff go with the Integra

Torque and rear seat room are the only things that maximas are better in
