I want an LS NON VTEC BUILD-

I'm new to this "BUILT" motor scene. SO building your motor is basically like reviving your motor back to new right? My LS is just my daily driver and don't plan on doing anything big but I still want it to be fast and reliable. Don't really want to get a vtec head or turbo so any suggestions with the stock ls motor would be good. So far I have a short ram intake, comptech header, and custom exhaust and some good suspension as well.

If you want a fast N/A Integra then your going to need vtec. Any well built Honda engine is reliable. Its when the person modding it doesn't know what they are doing, thats when things go wrong. An ls-vtec conversion with a b-series vtec head is one way, and it is very reliable if done right. Another option is to swap the engine. If I was you I would just go for the whole GSR swap.

why do all the idiots answer questions like this? you don't need vtec to go fast.

take the head, port and polish, 3angle valve job and use Crower or Brian Crower valve springs, titanium retainers and valves and some crower 404s or Brian Crower Stage3 cams. all this would be best with a set of US ITR pistons but the stock ones will work fine.

Re: I want an LS NON VTEC BUILD-

you dont need vtec..

those only make power up in the revs.
why doe they use ls bottom ends? torque. plain and simple.

leave the stock cams in it, but if you can run the stock 92-93 cams(if you have a 90-91)
you didnt say what year. i have freshened a few of these now. mostly on ones that have not been hurt. all new bearings, gaskets,3 angle valve job, some light port work. adjustable cam gears so on etc. make sure you check all ring gaps before you put it together.(most rings are file fit, but you would be surprised at how many dont do it)

now as far as power adders, i like spray. its not on all the time, and when setup right. works like a charm. on a 60 dry shot mine got 16 or so pass's out of one bottle.(i have had cars that go thru 1/2 bottle a pass, big motor spray cars) and i cant even add up how many bottles have went thru that motor, atleast one a week for 2 years) and its still running strong.

Okay maybe "need" wasn't the best word, but neither was "idiot", so I'll leave that alone.

I probably should have explained what I was getting at. Which was that vtec will give you a wider rpm band to work with, without losing high-end power or low-end torque.

Since you have a lot more rpms to work with you can lower the gear ratios for better acceleration without bouncing off of the limiter all the time. My R wouldn't be all that great without the 4.7FD and the 4.7FD wouldn't be that great if my engine didn't rev to 9k rpm. I cruise down the freeway at about 4k-5k rpms.

If I do remember right the OP lives in California, as do I. You won't be able to have any cam over a stage 1 in California.

Re: I want an LS NON VTEC BUILD-

How are people running stage 3 cams with that high of lift and duration on stock 9.8-1 compression ratio? Sounds like majorly overcamming the engine. Wouldn't you need like 11.5-1 or more to run that big of a cam and really make the power it was meant for?
